Race Day!

Today is race day. The start was at 7 am this morning and judging from pictures it was a beautiful sunrise, a little chilly but it has warmed up.
I am spending the day in the hotelroom due to a nasty fever/cold/sore throat combination that makes me feel a bit weak and I don't want to get anyone else sick. Par had a slight fever this morning so I hope he has enough energy to finish the race.
He has some of great grandma Ida's skorpor in his special needs bag. :-)

Yesterday we went on a leisurely boat tour which was great. We caught some sun (!) however the trip back was a bit windy which I'm sure didn't help us feel better. We were on an old wooden sailboat (but no sailing) and went first to the Praia des Golfhinos which is where the dolphins hang out when the water is warmer. Had lunch at a nice restaurant and then off to Santa Cruz fortress which is an old somewhat restored portuguese fortress from the 1700s. As someone once told Par - no trip is complete without looking at some old rocks.

When we returned, Par had to pack his bike and run bags and then bring those and the bike down to the start area for check-in. We had dinner and went to bed early. Par was up at 4am this morning and left around 4:30am. Hold your thumbs and cross your fingers for him!

In the meantime, I will try to recuperate and make my way to the finish line around 5.30-6pm. Par is hoping for less than 12 hours, but shooting to beat his last time which was 11 hrs and 13 min. I'll be there to cheer him on and hopefully get some good pictures.

Ciao - thank you for all the comments!
