The Lurve BoatThe Lurve BoatThe Lurve Boat

That's a whole lot of lovin.......
Sing it with me....'the love boat, soon we'll be dah dah dah (obviously dont know the words).... okay there's a point to that beginning....
Last night we sailed across from sweden to finland on an extremely large overnight ferry, otherwise affectionately known as the love boat!!! Word is a couple of contiki rebels managed to find a bit of lovin.... however most witnesses reported back with an immense amount of self inflicted sickness....related to the excessive consumption of alcohol, not the swaying of the boat!!
The evening started with a karaoke stint, with the aussies happy to clap along to the crazy sweds singing whatever it was that they were singing. For the record, those swedes go off!
However, there came a time when the aussies were no longer happy to clap along, they wanted songs they could sing to, songs that would get the boat rockin (so to speak), songs that everyone loved..... apparently those could not be found, so a somewhat 'different' version of waltzing matilda had to do!!
Apparently it was assumed that being typical aussies, we would all ofcourse know the lyrics to this particular song....not so!! For those of you who do know the words, you'll
Helsinki!Helsinki!Helsinki!

The lovely city of Helsinki!
agree with me when I say, the song's first verse does not start with Waltzing Matilda sung at top volume, followed immediately with, and his ghost may be heard...... am I right in saying, we missed a bit??
Anyway, that was entertaining, and not surprisingly, the crew decided to close the karaoke bar immediately after that rendition.
Fear not....for the band on the other deck, was just getting started!!
Whoever said Elvis Presley songs sung in swedish couldnt sound good needs a reality check....it was brilliant...and well worth dancing like a tool to.
Then there were those of us who realised that our swaying was alcohol induced, not sea related and decided to cease drinking right after the swedish elvis. Then there were those who are obvious alcoholics and thought they could use the sea as an excuse and so continued through to the wee hours then threw up for the entire following day, missing all finland sights.
Anyway, thats far too much info about the cruise from sweden to finland, lets move on.
We arrived in Helsinki Finland by lunchtime today and had a tour of a few amazing cathedrals, and a church that's carved entirely into rock.
We
Yet another pose....Yet another pose....Yet another pose....

Infront of the Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral. Its apparently the largest church in Scandinavia.
all then caught another ferry across to one of the islands (finland has around 10,000 islands, and 60,000 lakes.....dont quote these figures, they're possibly entirely made up)
to check out the Suomenlinna Fortress that the swedes built for finland as a protection from the russians during the war.
The rest of the day was spent exploring the streets of Helsinki and for some, sitting in the grass with their heads in a plastic bag, hoping the day would end.
Tomorrow we're off bright and early to head to St Petersburg Russia. We've heard lots of horror stories about Russia from previous travellers, but for some insane reason, are all extremely excited about checking it out for ourselves, so til then friends, thanks for reading!
Good to see we've added some pictures too hey!
