Got up early again and had breakfast at a local street stall. Pointing and hand motions have become a common way for us to get food! Went on a day trip to My Son, the Cham ruins about 40km from Hoi An, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Cham are one of the indigenous peoples of Vietnam, descended from the kingdom of Champa. When we arrived, a traditional Cham dance was already underway, so we watched the rest of it and then started a tour of the complex. Unfortunately, much of the complex was destroyed by bombings and there were even visible bomb craters. There seems to be reminders of the war everywhere we went. We took a boat back to Hoi An, stopping at a village where they make boats and furniture. Another bad “included lunch” on the boat. Spent the rest of the afternoon walking around Hoi An. Stopped at Before & Now for a drink, then went to happy hour at Pha Café 99 (great sangria). We had dinner at Café 96. When we got there, a tourist family was cooking their own dinner (Vietnamese cooking class).
