Today we drove to Thira and Mike parked the car in a No Parking Zone. LOL. There were no other parks available. We took the cable car down to the Old Port below Thira. Our sailing vessel was called St Nikolas. It was a lovely timber sailing boat, beautiful.
We sailed over to Neo Kameni and hiked up to the top of the volcano. It was quite a struggle to get to the top. The top of the volcano was still smouldering and smelt strongly of sulphur.
We then reboarded the boat and sailed to the Hot Springs at Poleo Kameni and some of the people from the tour had a swim in the Hot Springs.
We then sailed to Therassia where we had lunch at a water-side restaurant called, Captain Johns.
After lunch we sailed to Ammoudi to drop off some of the passengers and then we returned toThira old port.
There is a very steep climb from the Old Port up to the village of Thira and you can choose to Walk, ride a donkey, or take the cable car. I thought the donkey ride would be rather fun.
I was under the impression that the donkey's would be all linked together and led by the 'donkey man'. I WAS WRONG!
The man told me to climb on the donkey and then he whacked it on the rump and I was off, hanging on for my life!! There were many donkey's up the path and they were bumping into each other and my donkey kept scraping up against the wall. I looked over the wall and down the cliff - face!! and hung on tight. One of the donkeys was nipping at the other donkeys too. It was an interesting experience, but no one that I will hurry to do again. LOL!!
After our lovely relaxing donkey ride we walked up to meet Mike who was waiting for us, in a bar, at the top near the cable car.
When we returned to the car we found that we were blocked in by quite a few quad bikes........now what!
Luckily, a nice Greek man came and moved them for us so as we could get the car out.
We returned to the Hotel and had a lovely swim in the pool before going out to dinner at the Santorini Princess's restaurant.
We had had another fun -filled day today - and lots of 'donkey' laughs.
