At Gympie Station
The location is Gayndah, but we are actually at Mundubbera. Solely because its halfway between Gympie and Cania Gorge. Lovely campground, only about five tourists here. They must struggle to live.
Anyway on Thurday, 31 March we played golf at Bribie Island Golf Club. Would have been a lovely course except for the water that they have had water lying on the fairways since January. Turns a par 72 into about a par 80, when you have to aim your driver into the trees along the fairways to not lose it!! Lots of fun anyway.
On 1 April, rode the bikes to Woorim on the other side of the island and back, about an hour, then packed up and moved to Gympie. OK $26 per night. Went to the main street, and had to laugh as all the shops closed at 4.30pm or 5pm, Friday night !
The next day, backtracked to the Eumundi Markets where Don bought another hat - a blue one. On the way back diverted and had lunch at the Gympie Rock Pools - famous in Gympie. Back to town and found the "other attraction" the Rattler - a train to the Mary Valley. It was a lovely, fun trip through the countryside. Started to get some idea of the scale of the January floods.
The next day we played golf at Gympie, but got rained off after 9 holes. (Don won), had a leisurely afternoon and a wine later with Jule Curtain from Esperance, a NZer from way back (see her website).
Today, refuelled and headed north to Mundubbera via the back roads. Learned a) raise the caravan legs before you try to put the car and caravan together and b) turn the power on after pluging in. One each, so no divorce.
Mundubbera has a golf course so will stay here tomorrow and then move on to Cania Gorge.
