Our First full day in mexico city! The trip over from Australia was very long. We flew from Sydney to San Fransisco to Dallas to Mexico City. Lauren's was even longer as she had to fly from Armidale to Sydney first. The flight from sydney experienced a lot of turbulence and lightening which we could see out of the window. Needless to say we wernt feeling the best after so much flying. When we arrived at Mexico city... my luggage had been lost in Dallas (I knew that would happen to me) but i was well prepared. It still hasnt arrived yet.. altho they say it is now in mexico and will hopefully arrive tonight so i shall have clean clothes for uni tommorrow.

Needless to say we were both Jetlagged after the flights.. so we slept for 12 hrs. We are staying with a family in a house which is a bit like a boarding house. They have other international students staying and other people that have studied and then come back to mexico to work. There is about 14 people staying here at the moment, but we havnt met them all yet. Gil and Ali run the house with there son Luis. They speak very good English, however ther is a couple of people here who only speak spanish so we are getting plenty of practice. Ali is pleased we want to learn and is setting us 10 new words to learn each day. Already our vocabulary has expanded.

There are 2 other girls staying who are doing the same program as us (Ayen and Clare). Clare is 2nd yr dietetics at Newcastle and we had briefly met her last yr at Tamworth.

Today Ali took us for a tour around the town and to get a sense of direction. We took the metro into the city. Each Sunday one of the avenues (which is km long) gets closed off just for bicycles and pedestrians. Luis and his friends were riding. You can hire bikes and we will come and ride on one of our free days off. We also walked to see the universidad and the nearby plaza.

For lunch we had chicken tacos with quacamole and salsa, and beans. It was similar to Mexican food in Australia but just that little bit nicer and home cooked. The tacos were more like enchiladas and fried. For breakfast we had "bunuelos" which are like a fried tortilla with a sweet syrup poured on top.

While its monday midday in Australia.. its currently 7pm Sunday here in Mexico. We are still very tired and feeling a little strange from the altitude or pollution.

Buenosnoches,
Jo

Hey girls, Yes I found your blog, you posted it like 20 times! lol. not but such a good idea, like the food blog...that never happened! I told you about the luggage! America ALWAYS loses luggage! remember what I told you about the airline reimbursing you for your costs? they should have given you an emergency supplies and toiletries kit too! just keep the recipts for everything you have to buy due to the inconvienience. Your accom sounds heaps different, but it will be really fun being around other students! keep up the blogging love ti
