Chiang Mai

Yesterday we set off at 7 in the morning to get to Incheon to begin our travels! Our flight was the cheapest we could get to get us to Chiang Mai, Thailand, so we had quite a few stops (AirAsia is really cheap so we're using that for flights within SE Asia and Cheapoair.com for everything else)...we started in Seoul, flew for 4 hours to Guangzhou, China, waited for a couple of hours, then flew 3 hours to Bangkok, waited a bit in the airport there, and then flew about 1 hour up to Chiang Mai. So we got up at 6 am and finally got to our destination at around 11 pm. Long day!

In the airports in China and Bangkok they didn't have Wifi so in China we couldn't do anything but in Bangkok we went to an internet cafe and paid 100 baht (less than $4) for 20 minutes, but only used it for about five to look up where our hostel was. Little did we know that once we got to our gate they had free computers with internet that you could use standing up. Another little tidbit from that airport that was sorta funny was they had LG televisions with "Scarlet" written underneath...the same name Ronald gave his LG TV in Santiago...random.

I finished my book, First They Killed My Father, a narrative from a girl who experienced the terrors of the Khmer Rouge and Pol Pot in Cambodia (1975-1979). Really good book, I thought, told from her perspective as a child. I read most of it on my flight from Dallas to Seoul because my movie/TV screen didn't work, so I really had nothing else to do. Anyways, I recommend that book.

When we finally arrived in Chiang Mai we discovered there are no buses that run to the airport so the only option is to take a taxi. To get to A Little Bird Guesthouse Hostel, it cost 120 baht, so that was good for us. We showered and went to bed...so tired!

Today we decided to go to breakfast and figure out our plans for the day, so we went and had the "American Breakfast" which was a fried egg, two pieces of toast with butter or jam, a slice of ham, a small hot dog weiner, and tea or coffee. We also got the Pink Banana...a REALLY delicious banana/strawberry smoothie. So good. That all together was 190 baht for the two of us.

The internet at the hostel was too slow for Ronald to work, so we decided to look for another place to stay. We found a couple, but have settled in at Sripoom house for 500 a night in a private room with internet, a minifridge, a tv, AIR CONDITIONING!! and a balcony! Pretty amazing.

Tomorrow we're meeting with Becky and her husband at Miguel's, a Mexican restaurant she recommended to us, and from there hope to get lots of great suggestions about what to do and how long to stay! Off to explore now...chao!
