Fenguan....
So we made our way to this “traditional” village to escape the mayhem of Chinese cities and the 1 hour bus journey to get to it turned out to be 2 and lets say that hairy doesn’t go anywhere near explaining how scary this ride was!!! When we arrived, the bus station was in the middle of nowhere so this dodgy guy put an English guy on the phone to me who said his mate would drive us to the hotel so 15 mins later and paying over 3 – 4 times the standard taxi fare we arrived in Fenguan.
This hostel was the worst so far; the 1st room had damp all over the walls so we upgraded to a double room, it stunk of damp, there was urine on the carpet and the noise from outside was unbearable… and this was supposed to be chill out China.. We decided we wanted to leave the next day but after Dim and the manager had a heated discussion via some poor Chinese girl, the manager would not give us our money or deposit for the next nights’ accommodation. We ended up staying and moving to a 3rd room
which was initially better ; dryer although when we went to bed the smell of raw sewage was really quite over powering!!
We did have a lovely day in Fenguan out of the hostel it was very picturesque etc but at night time it turned into an English Blackpool… Needless to say we were glad to get out of there… lesson learnt to never stay in a hostel without reviews…
Next stop Yangshuo via Guilin and Changsha. Apparently back-packers paradise somehow I think our idea of paradise and Chinese idea of paradise is 2 different things…..
