Today we caught a bus to a hilltop town not far frm siena called San Gimignano. It is a medieval town, high on a hill & is unique due to the presence of 13 stone towers that still stand making it a very striking sight when 1st seen. Families built these towers because they could! There used to b more than 40
apparently. They also well known for their white wine, pottery & the spice saffron. It was a lovely day, we there for bout 5 hrs & walked around. Shops were beautiful, colourful & set into small stone niches in sides of old, stone buildings. On our walk we met a friendly local man who offered his services as a local guide if we wanted to join him on his daily walk - great stuff! We learned about the local wines, olive oil & some history & he very interested in Oz. On our return to Siena, pizza & risotto with porcini mushies and some Chianti Classico for dinner.

Greetings you two, have just caught up with your blog over the last few days, sounds like you are having a wonderful time, isn't it great to have opportunities to talk to locals to really find out what's what. Anyhoooo, just wanted to say I am thinking of you today Dos, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, now at least we are in the same decade!!
