I have got some crazy news....just as I am getting more and more into teaching I have to change things up. It really is great to see the kids and their slow and sometimes painful progression of learning the English language but the songs/embarrassing dancing we have been creating are a great way to watch them come alive. Hopefully we will have a Youtube debut soon. Even our weeknight class has taken to the songs...all the kids giggle during the hokey pokey when we either put our bum or our tongue in.
And so for the news...I´ve decided to accept the job as Project Manager for the organization and am leaving Puyo as we speak. I have to be out of the country by Saturday...so after a short stop to talk with the embassy in Quito tomorrow I will be on my way to a vacation in Colombia! Talk about excitement. Last week was a 3-day national holiday so almost everyone had left the house. They got back on Tuesday morning and I shared the news that I was leaving the house by Wednesday...imagine the element of shock. I feel bad now, because I am leaving without saying goodbye to any of the schools/kids/directors, but I know it is good for the long run. I really feel that Rachel and I will be able to take this program and make some positive changes. A few months really only allows someone enough time to get to know the situation and not enough time to have many lasting effects. It will be strange to return in a few months time to the same house full of completely different people. The last day was spent doing arts and crafts activities in the house since there was no class and for my last night at the house the boys got into the kitchen and honestly they seem to do a much better job than us. They made their best pizzas yet as well as a pineapple cake that was divine.

Teaching English
Hi Jessica, Little by little as i read more of your blog i get insights into your life and your story. Teaching English would be a wonderful experience and actually something that i wouldlove to do around South America. Have you done a TESOL degree? Are you volunterring or are you using the teaching as a way to fund your travels? I hard is it to find a job teaching English and what is the pay like? What is the house that you are staying in? It sounds like an English school residence or something. The experiences you are living seem absolutely amazing. Coming from Australia, the South American cultures are so differnet and intriguing to me and i really look forward to experiencing these.
