Eu sou Brasileira! Well almost, once I can actually speak some Portuguese but I am being mistaken for a Brazilian so that is a good start. My flight to Rio seemed never ending (especially after they ran out of food half way through and I had left my sweeties on the kitchen side). Eight hours in and I was dreaming about dancing jelly babies, the situation was made worse by being sat next to two people who clearly hadn't left their goodies behind and they didn't even offer me a single 'revel'. 11 hours of thoughts whirring through my head, had I done the right thing? Was I wierd that I didn't actually mind being on my own? That I felt 'complete' as I person and didn't need someone to hold my hand along the way, and I was ready to get off the plane and to have some distractions. Arriving at Rio airport late at night was a little scary, but I asked for directions to my hotel in the airport from two women at the Avis desk. I have never seen anyone so excited that I knew how to say '3' in Portuguese and they waved me off like proud school teachers.
The next day I was met a Salvador airport by Felipe and taken to Dani's family home. And what a greeting I received, it was so wonderful to be hugged and kissed like a long lost friend. I am being looked after so well, with plenty of food, drink and love. I am so grateful for their hospitality. I just wish I could speak Portuguese a little better as I feel quite rude but it will come, it has to! They are such a loving, lively group of people, it is hard to know where one person ends and the other begins. I can already feel the stresses and strains of London (and working) life, melt away, we really have got it all wrong!
Today I am sat in my bikini over looking the pool, with four-year-old Luis teaching me to count to 10 in Portuguese, before we head to Praia do Forte. Phew, I've made it.
