Up early and a day in Berlin to look forward to.

The trains ran on time ( no surprise there then ) and delivered us to the heart of Germany's capital and Alexanderplatz on a lovely sunny day.

First stop was the tv tower, the Berliner Fernsehturm, which at 368 metres beats Emley Moor at approx 335 metres ( is that right Paul F ? ). The lift takes 40 seconds to the panoramic floor at 203 metres and very smoothly too! Max stayed with her feet firmly on terra firma.

From the top we could see the expanse of the city below and the boys were fascinated by someone base jumping from a high rise hotel nearby and below.

Back on the ground we wandered down Unter Den Linden ( under the lime trees ) the main thoroughfare and the route to the Brandenburg Gate. Next we walked to the Reichstag the parliament and its park.

From here to the Holocaust memorial built on / near the site of Hitler's bunker and onto see the remains of the wall and checkpoint Charlie.

With time to spare we caught the underground to the Olympic stadium built for the 1936 Olympic games and a show piece for the Nazi party.
For me it holds particular memories as the Maifeld behind was the venue for Pink Floyd's 1994 Gig on their Division Bell tour ( 21st of August ) which I went to with three friends from Emley - Paul, John and Geoff - and was without doubt the best gig I have seen and a very memorable trip for many reasons.

Today this stadium is Germany's Wembley and hosted the 2006 World Cup Final.
Italy beat France on penalties after the match finished 1-1 after extra time. France's Zinedine Zidane was sent off in his last-ever match, for headbutting Italy's Marco Materazzi's chest in retaliation to a verbal insult.

Finally we headed home after a long day.

Emley Tower
Just catching up. Emley tower is 330.4m so the Berlin version is definitely taller, although designed by the same team as Emley.
