Hi all
Thanks for all of the lovely comments. We're currently at Port Hedland and, after what seems a lifetime, we are back online.
I have been making entries in a Word doc. over the past week or so please read on below. I've added a few snaps too.
Cheers

We decided it was just about time we departed Broome, after almost a month there. We had such a good time and have vowed to return one day.
We met up with a couple we had met at Daley Waters, way back in early July. It was such a shame we were moving on but they will probably catch up with us in Karratha.
We left this morning at 9.00am and headed for Eighty Mile Beach, approx 360km south of Broome. We arrived at the campsite at 2.00pm after a final 6km trip down a vivid red dirt track. Surprisingly there was no sign of any red dust in the van when we stopped.
There was an entertainer performing for happy hour. He sang a few Slim Dusty songs among a lot of his own compositions. All in all
it seems to be a well organised campsite and hopefully we can relax a bit after our hectic schedule to date?????? The fishing here is supposed to be special, so Rose and I will be throwing a line in tomorrow.

We went for a long walk this morning along the endless beach. The tide was out about 1km so we didn’t get to fish in the morning and by the time we got organised at 2.00pm, the tide had been in and gone out again, so the fish weren’t biting.
Once again, we don’t have phone or internet service here, and the pay phones were out of order yesterday, so we were unable to contact Kevin for his 60th birthday. Of course when they fixed the phones today, neither Kev nor Georgina were available! Happy Birthday anyway Kev.

We did another long walk this morning and this time, managed to be back on the beach for the incoming tide. There were at least 100 people lined up along the shore with fishing rods! Many people were catching good size Threadfin Salmon as well as the odd shark and large Ray. Unfortunately
for us, we didn’t have any luck.

Yet another long walk, followed by a hearty breakfast, before heading determinedly for another shot at fishing. “Today is the day”, thought John! After 4hrs of standing in the 35deg. heat, hardly a bite. What made it worse was that every one around seemed to be catching fish. I decided to give the rod to Rose while I had a bite to eat. I glanced up to see that Rose had hooked and landed a 3lb Salmon. She was delighted, and so was I?????? I had trouble getting her to leave after that, but she has a renewed ambition to be on that beach early tomorrow .
The friends we had met again in Broome, arrived mid afternoon and we sat on the beach with them watching the sunset while having a drink and nibbles. All in all, another good day.
Monday 13th Sept.
Rose was un-well overnight and as a result spent most of the day in bed! High tide was 1.15pm so, after making sure Rose was ok, I headed for the beach again with rod in hand, to catch dinner. Surprise surprise!! I
caught a Blue Threadfin Salmon and yes, it was big enough to eat. (approx. 2kg). It was an incredibly hot and humid afternoon and I was glad to get back to the aircon in the van.

Rose was feeling better this morning so we went for a walk. We had rain overnight, the first for about three months???? It was quite cold, relative to the warm weather we had been used to. The rain continued throughout the day but it didn’t stop the day’s fishing. Once again I caught an edible sized salmon, but decided to throw it back.
We’re due to leave here on Thursday so hopefully the weather will improve in time to drive out along the dirt track. Can’t wait to get internet and phone service again!
Wednesday 15th Sept. 2010
The weather is still a bit grim and we will definitely be moving on tomorrow. We didn’t even get a bite in the two hours we spent feeding the fish!!
Thursday 16th Sept. 2010
Arrived at Port Hedland and hooray!! We have phone service etc. Sad to say, but we found out that my son’s dog Roy, had to
be put down last Monday. He had a large aggressive tumour in his nasal passage and was struggling to breath.
We will be heading for Karratha on Saturday to watch Laura play in her netball grand final.

Went on the most boring tour yet. BHP Iron Ore tour!! The plant is merely there for receiving ore by train and loading it onto ships. It was impressive to see how they do it and also the shear size of the operation, but we had difficulty staying awake. The plant used to be set up to crush the large boulders of ore but that has been decommissioned and is now done at the Mt Newman open cut.

Sand sand and more sand
Hope you are collecting samples of sand along the way to make your Sand Bottle (wait til you get down to Servantis (sp??) and then around the southwest...) Meant to ask - are you heading into Tas or just sticking to the North Island?
