Friday 3rd Sept. 10

We’re still in Broome and have decided to stay until Monday.

My trip down to Karratha for my son Pete’s footy final last weekend was a real laugh. Although they lost to Port Headland by only 5 points, the return trip was a scream. The wives and girlfriends were following the team bus in another and after a few beers, the boys decided to strip off and hide on the side of the road. When the girls bus came along, the boys hopped across the road like Kangaroos. Fortunately, the driver of the girl’s bus had been informed of what would happen so no one was in danger. It gave the girls a great surprise and laugh.
While all of the fun was going on, the team bus drove off about 1km and left the boys stranded without clothes. They then had to meander their way back to the bus.

I watched Laura’s netball team play on Monday night and was pleasantly surprised by the level of skill and speed of the game. Laura is a key player in the team and made several intercepts. They ran out easy winners and have finished top of their ladder.

Rose had a very pleasant weekend by herself in Broome and I was happy to get back to her on Tuesday, in a reasonably fit state, considering.

We went to the Broome outdoor cinema on Wednesday night to watch “Bran Nue Dae”, which, by coincidence was filmed in the Broome area. It was amusing to be sitting watching a film of people sitting in the same cinema as we were???

At one point, there was a loud noise from overhead and everyone was surprised to look up to see a QANTAS jet flying just above the screen as it came into land at the airport. Everyone cheered as it disappeared, then got on with watching the movie.

Other than that, Rose and I have been walking every morning, followed by nice long days on Cable beach, under the shade of the small awning I have fitted to the side of the Prado.

We will be heading for Eighty Mile Beach on Monday.
