After a teary goodbye at home we arrived in Moscow (the Russians clapped when the plane landed) and much to our delight there was no smog. We were dreading going through Russian customs but to our complete surprise it was a breeze. We figured out pretty quickly that Russians or at least Moscovites don't smile. We were met by a non smiling man who took us to our hotel. He never smiled and certainly didn't speak- at all. The hotel was fantastic and much better than the one we had in London. We venturer out for some water that night but after a long day we ate in the hotel. This needs to be seen to be believed. It is a cross between an American hunting lodge, with stuffed animals on the walls and floral seat cover and a backstreet disco with mirrors, lights and glitter balls hanging from the ceiling. And still no smiles. The next morning we started our walking tour of Moscow with a nice but non smiling Russian lady who for the sake of the blog we will call Lena. We asked her twice but couldn't understand it. she taught us how to ride the moscow underground and gave us a long tour of Moscow. We started in red square and ended in a lovely street full of bars and restaurants. Red square is excatly as imagined and the buildings and architecture are stunning. We took a trip inside the kremlin and the churches and cathederals in there were truely beautiful.

Our legs were aching and so we ventured into a posh shopping mall to and were surrounded by New Look and top shop plus many other well known clothes store. we collapsed for Coffee and next to us we noticed a man. it was none other than Lenin. He then proceeded to take off his shoes and talk to a Russian general. It was very surreal. People walked by looking in amazement at 2 foreigners, Stalin and his general. it painted a very funny picture.

Great start
Good to hear you made it there, was wondering about that dust cloud. How come none of them are smiling? Is it just the people working, or everyone? Did you get any photos of Stalin/Lenin/whichever Russian you actually saw?

Arthur: "Thankyou for bringing our bikes. How long is your train?" Hetty: "On Tuesday we made cheesy swirls. We made tents. In Cornwall we saw no white aeroplane. What else did you see?"
