So I started my first week as an e-Marketing Intern for ACG (Academic Colleges Group). They're a chain of Private, International and English Schools. The head office is only a 10 minute walk away and is on the 17th floor so I have a great view of the Harbour and Sky Tower. There are three other people in my department - from Thailand, China and my boss Kim is from Sweden so still very multicultural! Kim is really nice and has no problems with me being flexible with hours which is good to know as it’s very useful to leave early on some Fridays for weekend trips! I've also been given Wednesday to Friday off next week as the others in my department are off on a business trip so it would just be me on my own. (I'm currently writing this on one of those days off 😱)

Another bonus about work is Friday afternoon drinks. I had some I.T. problems last Friday so in the afternoon I was working pretty hard to catch up on the work that needed doing........until 4.30 when my boss questioned why I wasn't joining the others for drinks (in the office). Cheers! It's pretty customary to slack off early on Fridays and crack open a bevvies. I can definitely get used to that! I'm not usually that big on white wine, but really enjoyed the New Zealand white (well anything tastes better when you're supposed to be working!).

The social side of things is going really well. Getting the job through the agency has been so good for meeting people in the same situation as me, otherwise it would have probably taken a lot longer to build up a social life. I’m getting past the stage of saying my name, where I'm from, what I'm doing, how long I'm here for etc etc etc to the majority of people, so feeling less like the newbie now.

On the weekend we went on a day trip to Raglan on the coast, south west of Auckland. It's renown for being one of the best surf spots in NZ so I was closely following the swell reports all week and it was forecasted to drop off on the Saturday......which it did, so unfortunately didn't get any surfing in. But there were a few who are keen to go again when it's a bit warmer and there's half decent surf. Anyway it was still a really nice day with sunny weather and we also went to a place called Bridal Veil Falls - a 55m waterfall - which was pretty impressive as you could see it from the top and follow a path down to the pool at the bottom. Unfortunately my camera decided to delete all the pictures!! But there were a few of us so I've got some off the others.

I'm booked to go to Wellington at the end of the month with three others who are all reasonably new. There are also plans to go to Hobbiton (Lord of the Rings set) and maybe skiing.........

Oh and I may have found a football (well Futsal) team to join on Monday evenings, which is indoor 5 a side. Very hard to find an 11 a side team as it’s coming towards the end their season (and it’s not as big in comparison to back home......obviously!), so teams aren’t really looking for new players, along with the fact that on most weekends I’ll either be away or hungover!

So overall I’m really enjoying it so far and have plenty planned for the rest of the month!

Leo x
