Camper assembled and upright . . .
over DAY ?
Honestly I don’t know the day of the week …
Rather than attempt to recount everything that has happened, I’ll hit the highlights …
we have taken 100’s of pictures which will go into a photo blog when we figure out how to transfer them from the computer into this blog …
patience …
we basically followed I 94 to the Montana border … the southern sections of Teddy Roosevelt’s ranch are along I 94 at the far end of North Dakota … we arrived late afternoon two days ago and after setting up camp we took the 40 mile loop drive … the Theodore Roosevelt National Park is in the North Dakota badlands and are as extensive as the South Dakota badlands …, not as colorful, however, they are much more grassy … we hiked a couple of times and saw a white tailed doe up close, elk through the binoculars, 3 wild mares and a colt … and at deep dusk came across a herd of buffalo … for 30 minutes we watched them mosy across the road just in front of and just behind the van … awesome … the
John Muir in TR Park
John Muir in N Dakota Badlands highlight of the day was the wild horse that posed on a ridge just at dusk and gave us the chance to take numerous photographs … the park service must pay him well to stand patiently in that one spot … the amazing thing is that we saw narry an antelope across the plains …
yesterday we crossed the hills and plains of Montana and arrived at the western gate to glacier national park … it was a mutual decision to drive “the going to the sun highway” through glacier … we’ll post the pictures and they will speak for themselves … if you want one of the most awesome roads in the lower 48, this spectacular highway is for you …check it out on google … it is not for the faint of heart driver … slow going with numerous waits for construction …
… the other most surprising thing to me is that we saw no evidence of trash … perhaps everone watched Ken Burn’s tv documentary on the national parks …
The exercising I did before the trip and paid off … we Fat guy w coffee cup (Glacier Entrance)
Fat guy w coffe cup. (Hat by Red head. Cup by Peter) did a mile hike along the ridge ...
Our expectation was to blog every day, however you can see we have made the decision to spend our time experiencing rather than typing about our experiences … basically we arise at first light … exercise … and find breakfast … then it is keep on the go until a half hour before sunset … after setting up camp, we shower, fall into our sleeping bags and sleep soundly until first light …
When driving we take breaks every hour or two … I ate lunch on Sunday at a restaurant and other than that we have nibbled out of our food stash … surprisingly I have had coffee only in the mornings …
gotta run, more later ...

Greg’s addition comes to the page after a full day of driving and walking and looking and feeling Glacier National Park. Immense, awesome . . . “too much.”
The entire journey has been fantastic and much like Glacier.
The plains as great as TR’s Bad Lands or Glacier’s awesome faces. As often heard - “not better,
trail 1
on the "high line trail" Glacier National Park just different.”
Since I started this trip, I have decided to be a teacher and human rights activist, then a President and setter aside of vast lands for public use, a cowboy, a full time traveler to National Parks, and now a mountain goat human who swims in cold beautiful rivers.
Today, we turned the radio on for the first time. It lasted 20 seconds at best. I have been traveling with Richard Russell (GR)- the all time great story teller and there has been no time or need for radio. It has been an incredible experience to cross the country with this man.
Daily Richard Russell report:
GR has exhibited incredible physical capability to negotiate that which one comes across when pulling a camper across country. He rises before me and as I am off inspecting the campsite bathrooms - he is busy breaking cap. He is extremely efficient.
We go hard from early morning to dark. Today, I had to request a time out and nap. GR accommodated with patience and understanding.
GR has a terrific ability to meet the people native to the area. This skill has lead to the finding of many nooks and crannies, animals

The Intrepids! to view, etc. His understanding of the impact of Glaciers on the landscape is also most impressive.
And although all things are amazing - these mountains and winds that blow through them have especially been terrific as have been the spirit rich plains and her people.

Love your blogs!!! You both are great writers and super interesting to read. (I'm getting worried about my lack of hiking - you guys are going to dump me at the next park bench while you continue to experience!)
