We finally arrived the morning of july 9th after a long long trip from New York, where we had to stop in Panama city and wait 11 hours for our flight.
We found a (more or less) cheap hostel in Ipanema wich cost us 25 reais pp. for a dorm (Girl from Ipanema hostel)
The hostel was quite alright and a good place for partying, for those who want that.
This because there are many hostels in the same alley so its packed outside during the evening.. Peple having a pre-party before leaving together to "Lapa". The hostel also arranges tours to go to a party in one of the Favellas (with a guide though), and only on sundays..
This party atmosphere is both good and bad. The good thing for us, who wouldn't spend our money on partying (Rio is expensive!!!), is that there was a rule that you had to be quiet after 10pm., but people do tend to get home eventually.
We got in 6 french people in our dorm, who couldnt keep quiet! Also they wanted the fan off during the night!!! never trust the french, froggies 😉
During our stay in Rio, we felt like the
"old couple" at the hostel. We woke up early in the morning, did alot during the day, and went out to eat some good food at night (Which is expensive in the Ipanema area - for budget travellers). One night we also went to the movies. The cinemas in Oslo really has a thing or two to learn from the Brazilians about how to prepare popcorn!!! A whole new experience, The popcorn didn't taste like cardboard!!
One of the days we went to the beach to watch some of the Rio people 😊 they are something for themself! Where else can you see people over the age of 60, running a marathon on the beach and 100 guys in speedo at the same time?? Some packing sigarettes and lighter in the speedo also!
The waves at the beach were awesome, and a bit scary!
Sissel who's never seen anything like this, went for a swim. Well, this much I can say - I saw her, a big wave, I didn't see her anymore, ohh there she was, ON LAND!! The same happened to me though, but I've got a shorts which is tied to my hips - so no worries;o)
We took a tour to see some of the main sights of the city, couse it was pretty cheap and no hassle with getting on 10 different busses.
BUT, before we could start the tour, our guide had to buy 6 sigarettes!
There were also some people from other hostels on this tour, and a big laugh was that the guide "fell in love" with one girl, called Caroline, and he mainly talked to her all the time to check if she had a good time 😊
First stop was the Tijuca national park where the city gets all its fresh air from, their A/C as he said.. We drove through the park afterwards to go see the Jesus statue at Corcovado. 2 months prior to our visit they had alot of mud slides couse of the rain, in total 283 slides which he pointed out like at least 100 times.
We got to the Corcovado just in time to get a view of the statue and city, couse it started to get cloudy.
The statue actually went out of sight, as we returned.
But, the statue is a "must do", when in Rio. We skipped the sugarloaf, couse you
get pretty much the same wiew as at Corcovado.
The next day, the weather was bad, so we decided to move on to Foz Do Iguacu.
We literally had to jump on a bus, as they only stop for about 2 seconds before they take off again (with you inside or hanging in the door)!
Petter Solberg (norwegian rallydriver) would eat his dust in the streets of Rio!!
They drive like crazy and it seems like they are racing eachother, sometimes we were 3 busses in width, in a 2 lane street 😊
We counted that the diriver passed 7 red lights, without even slowing down!
We've been joking around about, if they went to Norway and applied for a job as bus drivers they would not last a week couse they would probably get jailed the first day.
The bus to foz do Iguacu costed us 167 reais and was quite comfy, if it hadn't been for the toilet in the back that was so full that it smelled urin the whole 25 hours busdrive!!
But the guy next to us got lucky and checked up a girl on the bus, so they were going at it
as soon as night fell in. I guess that is how they do it here in Brazil.
Photos will come when we find a place where we can upload

Så artig, men jeg er glad over å slippe å bo på det rommet! Hadde fått fnatt av sånt rot! Flott å få oppleve så mye!
