Recife - Boa Viagem
Here is the beach where we stayed at in Recife. So we flew into Recife from Manaus even though it was quite a detour considering we had about 4 stopovers before we finally came to our destination.
Recife seemed to be very modern with a lot of condos built around the beach area called Boa Viagem. The beach was not bad but one thing that seemed to be missing in there was the action. There was no bars or restaurants like one would usually picture. I got checked into a hotel and well me and Wayne, the australian pretty much just lazed around the beach trying to get burned by the sun everyday. We visited the old part of town in Recife.
Walked around a bit but did not see anything that would totally amaze me.
After a couple of days of being useless, we decided to go to Olinda for a day trip since it is only a 15 minute ride from Recife. So we took the taxi there and started to explore.
Olinda is actually a really cozy little town with picturesque buildings and a small market area where you can buy rather original souvenirs. I tried some local desert which I presume was something
Olinda
View from top of Olinda like a pita bread with cinnimon and banana and it was served hot. It was actually very deliciious especially when I was sipping on a coconut juice as well at the same time. The carnaval in this town is more traditional with a people marching and dancing in the streets....well from what we have been told and the postcards. Let's not kid ourselves, I am not the all knowledgable Russ you all think I am.
After Olinda we decided that it is time to move on so the next day we got on the bus to Salvador, which takes around 11 hours. The buses are comfortable so the ride is fairly smooth.
