Well night one is done and over and now it officially feels like we're back on the road. Oh how I've missed sleeping at Wal-Mart but I must say this one is pretty nice. I woke up at 7:00 am this morning and began my on-the-road workout which consists of sit-ups, side twists and a little weight lifting. And I do mean "little", the weights are only 5 pounds each, but hey, anything is better than nothing, right ?? I had a small bowl of Special K and then took a COLD shower. Tim was still sleeping and I totally forgot to cut the hot water heater on when I first woke up. Oh well, it really wasn't that bad because it had been in the 90's the day before so the water was kinda warm. After I was ready, I woke Tim and he began to proceed with his daily routine. Soon we were headed out of Wal-Mart and off to see the famous Peabody Ducks at The Peabody Hotel in Little Rock. We saw the Peabody as we were crossing over the bridge and into downtown, now the trick was to find somewhere to park Bertha. We circled around
several times before settling on a spot about three blocks from the hotel. We parked and then made our way on over to check out these marching ducks. At 5 til 11, the duckmaster appears from around the corner and proceeds to tell us the history of the duck march and then, at exactly 11:00 here they come. They waddled off the elevator, around the corner, down the red carpet, up the stairs and right into the water. It was soooo cute !! You can also see them in Memphis and Orlando. We had a little list of things to do so we headed on out to see what we could find. We ended up next door at the Old State House. Here we got to see Bill Clinton's saxophone, tennis shoes, sunglasses and much much more. This is the building were he announced he was running for President and also where he celebrated when he won, both times ! Next, we drove over to check out the new Bill Clinton Presidential Library. We drove through and saw it from the outside but didn't have anywhere to park so we didn't get to stay. Earlier, I had found on the
internet where we could visit the site where the mill was that was used in the opening credits of Gone With The Wind so Tim punched the address into Magellan and we made our way there. The Old Mill is in the T.R. Pugh Memorial Park in North Little Rock which is a beautiful little park. Much to our surprise, the Old Mill is completely functioning and is set in the most pristine place you could imagine. It was so quiet, all you could hear were the birds chirping and the water flowing. We love finding neat little places like this and this one was a great way to start off our trip. After seeing a little piece of Gone With The Wind history we made our way into town and we were on a mission. The house that was used in the hit TV Designing Women was somewhere around and we were determined to find it. After a little riding around we came upon "Villa Marre" and it was exactly like I remember seeing on TV. It is privately owned now so we couldn't go inside so we just took a few pictures and then headed back to the
highway. We were on our way to Tulsa, Oklahoma and what a fun ride that was. I made us a hot pastrami and cheese sandwich with the sandwich maker and we played Family Fued as we rode down Interstate 40. It was very relaxing and we were having a great time until about 4:30 pm when we began to drive right into a horrible storm. We exited off I-40 and onto the Muskogee Turnpike and was driving right into the eye of the storm which we thought may turn into a tornado at any moment. Bertha was swaying back and forth and we were all over the road and just before we were about to pull off to the side of the road it started to ease up a little. Well it rained for the next several hours which made for some tough ridin' and drivin' but we eventually made it all the way to Tulsa. As we were getting closer and closer to Tulsa we began to see a few billboards.....Casino billboards !! Of course we had to stop and check one of the out so we made our way over to the River Spirit Casino there in Tulsa
The Peabody
This is the famous Peabody Hotel as we are coming over the bridge in Little Rock, AR. and decided to go in for dinner and a little gambling. Dinner was fabulous and the gambling was okay..........I lost, Tim won ! We only stayed for about an hour or so and then caught the shuttle out to the motorhome and we were off to sleep. They were gracious enough to let us camp there for the night so that's what we did...........definitely not the first time Bertha's slept in a casino parking lot ! We're off bright and early tomorrow to check out some stuff in Tulsa and then we'll be headed to Oklahoma City. Gosh it feels so good to be on the road again !! :-)
