Fun and Full Moon Party on Koh Pha Ngan
We arrived on Koh Pha Ngan at Haad Rin, the famed location of the Full Moon Party which happens (funnily enough) on the night of the Full Moon each month on the beach at Haad Rin. Although we still like a party, Shaun and I decided against staying at Haad Rin, as we wanted to be at a nice beach, with the ability to sleep and sunbake without thousands of teenagers running around drunk and disorderly (the disgrace!).
Anyway, we'd heard from good sources that Thong Nai Paan was a nice spot on the north eastern part of the island and so that's where we headed. About an hour journey later on the back of a ute, we arrived! It was beautiful, just what I'd expected. We found a place to stay, and settled into our fan room.
We met a few cool people, and decided that we would indeed head to Haad Rin for the Full Moon Party extraveganza! The first two days were spent chilling on the beach, eating Paad Thai, Thai Soup, and whatever else we could get our hands on! The food here was yummmmmy!
All the weight I lost in Philippines, had certainly crept it's way back on.
We hired a motorbike one day, but the roads are sooo steep we didn't venture very far without me shouting for Shaun to slow down so the motorbike adventure was short lived! The rest of our days was lazing by the beach, chilling out, and eating!
The night of the FMP arrived, and we got ready, had a few beves and got into our boat...it seems as though everyone in Koh Pha Ngan, or at least in Thong Nai Paan had come together and decided on an amount to charge Falangs for everything from bike hire, gas, taxi rides and boats rides...especially in FMP time. Anyway, we finally managed to get this guy to take us on his boat for 200B each (7 of us) then another lady came screaming down the road telling him that it wasn't allowed and saying all sorts in Thai, then basically he retracted his deal - so we had to go with the screaming lady for 250B! Anyway the boat came to the beach around 9pm and we jumped on...along with 20 other Falangs on their way. No
joke, there were about 25 - 27 of us on this long tail boat, with no life jackets and a small light to shine them to the destination! A scary hour later, we arrived to hear the bass thumping at Haad Rin. It was insane! The biggest beach party I've ever seen, and this was LOW season...apparently only around 10,000 people as apposed to high seasons 30,000 plus. Would not want to have been there in high season, waaay to many people.
Anyway, the details of the night are a little fuzzy but definatley included dancing, a few buckets, a few shakes and a LOT of fun! We caught the boat back to our beach as the sun was coming up around 6am. At least we weren't one of the 'youngens' who passed out from too many buckets on the beach before middnight even set in....ahh to be young again!!!!!!
We stayed on Koh Pha Ngan for 5 nights in total, and shyishly confided to each other that we were a bit 'beached out' and even though we were in paradise - we a bit bored so we decided that we'd head from Koh Pha Ngan, bypass Bangkok
and head straight to Chaing Mai. 36 Hours and a taxi, a boat ride, a bus ride, a tuk tuk, train and another tuk tuk later...we arrived into Chaing Mai!
