The twin windmills above Clayton known as Jack and Jill are famous local landmarks that can be seen for miles around. They were erected way back in 1765.
Well what a difference a day makes when it comes to the weather. Hardly a cloud in the sky, sun shining and a gentle breeze on the top of the Downs so as to make the walking enjoyable. This was the day of the big push with 16 miles planned so that I can finish in Eastbourne on Friday and be back in Devon for the weekend. I must have ended up walking about 18 miles as I went ''off track'' a couple of times due to poor waymarking. In amongst it all there were quite a few hills to climb but generally speaking most of the walking was along the spine of the Downs with wonderful views of Brighton and the South Coast. Went pass Devil's Dyke and the story goes this was dug out by Satan. He must have moved the waymarking posts at the same time.
Finished near Falmer close to the University of Sussex as well as the new football stadium being built for Brighton and Hove Albion FC (got to get a bit of football in there somewhere) Tomorrow is the penultimate day of the trip and the forecast is for continuing sunshine. What a way to

Hope the sun keeps shining
Hi John. I've been enjoying your Blog. Looks like a fantastic walk. The Cocking to Amberley section looked particularly nice. Didn't a certain larger and (theoretically) far superior club once struggle to beat Brighton and Hove in a Cup Final in 1983? Best regards Paddy

Dew Pond

looks like a big puddle
Sorry John, but I couldn't see anything other than a big puddle. What will they be used for when restored? Did it look inviting enough for you to cool off in? Maybe I'd need to see it in person to make further comment. Just an ignorant Kiwi perhaps!
