Hi there,

Just a brief intoduction. I am 52 year old who was the wrong side of 20 stone and very unfit. I holiday in Corfu each year and just love the Island and and the people. The scenery from the green/grey of the olive groves, the brown/puples of the high mountains in the north, the yellows of the beaches to the emerald/turquoise of the sea. In the summer months the warmth of the air that greets you as you exit the plane and stays with you til you enter it to return home. The scenery varies all year; I've been in June, July, September and October and each visit is different; the varying sun (and heat), flowers, colours of the landscape change with the sun and time of day. Wonderful sunrises over Albania and sunsets in the west.
Trips to inside the Island open your eyes to another pace and way of life different from the tourist stips on the coast; you enter the real Corfu that has hardly changed for hundreds of years. The people are hard working and friendly, the pace of life is slow. They work the fields and olive groves and do so around the heat of the day still taking their seista each day. I decided to see more so booked to walk the Corfu Trail, a 220 km meandering walk from near Kavos in the south to Ag Spiridon in the north via many villages and taking in many sights including the Islands two tallest peaks at 576 meters and 906 meters. Basically it uses the old paths and tracks of Corfu that date back to the Venetian times and were used by the locals and their donkeys to move themselves and their produce between villages, town and the coast to export or take to town by boat. Some of the ancient cobbled paths - kaldimari - still exist and are part of this walk. So holiday was booked with the help of Anna at Aperghi Travel; but the walking is all down to me!
All that was needed was for me to get into some form of fitness so I can complete the walk.............tomorrow......pain before the gain!!

Good On Yer Dave!!
I'm greatly impressed! I'll be even more impressed when you complete the Trail!! I'm just hoping it doesn't turn really hot for you. 220 kilometres by paths and tracks and two mountains is a terrific challenge so just attempting it is brilliant in my book. Good fortune and congratulations in advance Dave for undertaking a great 'feat' for a terrific cause. David

Cheers David, i've been training in sweat tops to be used to the body heating up but really am more concerned about rain. Even though the storms are great to watch in Corfu I dont fancy a soaking when walking and it will affect photos and if it comes late in my walk maybe prevent me getting up the top of Pantokrator. So I will be visiting St Spiriodon in Corfu town to ask for good weather!
