Dan and his new bed.
Dan, very happy with his new mattress and bed sheets! Half way through week three of our stay here in Uganda we are well and truly settling back in to the African way of life. Between frequent power outages, water shortages and remembering how much we truly hate hand washing our clothes, it feels like we never left! Not that we are complaining -our time with the kids and babies more than makes up for everything.
We have had requests from some of you about what we have spent our money on so far. In the first couple of weeks we have helped PCA by paying three months rent which was desperately required to be paid, purchased much needed household items such as mattresses, bed sheets, mosquito nets, clothes, shoes, repairs of cases where the kids store their very little, but very valued belongings, and an electric shaver to ensure that hair is always kept short for hygiene purposes. Our priority now is to ensure that the kids have their necessary school requirements for the next term which starts in two weeks time.
As well as spending time at the home we have also visited the street kids in the slums of Kampala. These slums are where the kids
On the bus.
On the bus on the way to the football match. The excitement soon died down when we realised we were lost (a half hour trip took two hours!). from PCA originally came from. The impact of walking through the slums and talking to the kids there, can not be underestimated. The outreach programme (on Wednesdays and Fridays) enables the uncles from PCA to talk with the street kids, provide them with at least two stable meals a week, teach them basic skills and attend to their medical needs.
The highlight of this week was a trip on a bus to a yearly football match between street kids from different districts of Kampala. The excitement of boarding a bus for what should have been a short trip, (we got lost, lol), took us both by surprise. I guess we really take for granted something as simple as getting into a vehicle to take us to another destination for a day out.
As you can read from this entry, the kids needs are never ending. If you or anyone you know would like to donate to assist with the kids needs, any contribution, big or small, would be so greatly appreciated.
Once again we leave you with some photos and the bank account details.
