hello all. so, i show up at the airport, i start to cry just thinking about leaving momma. then i see becky and it starts to become real. after i say goodbye to mom, becky and i head in to check my bag (she already did hers). the line was about 45 minutes, and went smoothly.our flight from rome to chicago was delayed by 2 hours because of the ash cloud. (sigh) then, we went through security, all clear, and proceeded to our gate. we hung out there, and got hungry. turns out, that there is no real food past security besides pringles, juice, and candy. so we go back to the terminal, past security, and grab something to eat. then we head through security. again. we head to our gate, and wait for about an hour and a half. becky and i played an intense game of war before boarding. when we board, we take off right on time. for about the first hour, i just sit and watch the little animated plane fly over the animated US. i got tired, and plugged in my ipod and zoned out for awhile. dinner was cantaloupe, two grapes, veggie slaw, a deli turkey slice, fatty beef stroganoff, cheese lasagna, and a cracker. gourmet right? as it gets darker, becky "falls asleep"- zones out- and i try to go to sleep. almost the whole time from 8 pm to 5 am was turbulence, which is hard to sleep in. i probably got 3 or 4 hours of actual sleep. when we landed, it was awesome to finally be in italy! we walked around the rome airport, i had my first gelato, and then becky went to an atm. i took out my camera to take some pics, and put my case with the usb back in my carry on bag. i go take the pics, come back, and i can't find the usb! i need it to transfer my pictures to my computer. poof! gone. becky says i can use hers if mine runs out, and she can transfer them to my computer. okay. i go through customs, very intimidating, and hang with becky for an hour or so until our connection leaves. we board, and we realize, it is a bazillion times more comfy than our overnite plane. ughhh. whatever. we taxi around for about ten minutes, and then the captain announces we are having mechanical errors, and have to go back to the gate. oh no! we go back, get it fixed, and takeoff an hour and a half late. we arrive in florence, and get off the plane. we find our luggage, and go find Sergio (the driver from our apartment) and can't find him. we wait for 20 minutes, and no Sergio. our flight is a total of 5 and a half hours late total. no wonder he isn't there!! we grab a cute little taxi and i get my first taste of florence.

"i get my first taste of florence"
Tell me....what did it sound like, look like, smell like? Mom wants to know. What was it like to exit the airport into a different country? What was your very first impression as your drove to PSC in the taxi? Tell me more....
