Welcome to Haley's Travel Blog! I thought I'd start the blog off and let you know how all's going.

I dropped Haley off at O Hare airport today around 12:30pm. We were able to meet with Becky (her cousin) just outside the doors to Alitalia. Becky informed us that the flight had been delayed for take-off by two hours. Instead of leaving at 3:30pm they're scheduled to leave at 5:30 pm. It seems the volcano in Iceland and it's ash will slow them down but not stop them from going. The airlines did reschedule their connecting flight but I wonder how MGM (Mary/Grandma/Mom) will know when to meet them. MGM has no internet connection unless she goes to an internet cafe. No big worries...they have a car to pick them up from the airport in Florence. Sergio will drive them to the apartment and if M/G/M isn't there, they'll go have pizza somewhere and come back later...it's all good.

I did speak to Haley around 4 pm this afternoon. She said check-in was almost an hour long but security was a breeze. After whipping thru security they found there was nowhere to eat on that side of the International Terminal. Becky and Haley then went back out of the terminal found some lunch and re-zipped thru security again. Haley mentioned that they're already getting in "trouble"...seems they were walking on the people movers in the opposite direction... They haven't even left the country yet!!!!

I just got a call!!!! They're boarding!!!!

And...they've landed
Don't ask me why I'm up at 3 am CST. I just am. Since I can't sleep, and to keep from being bored, I looked up their flight status and they just landed in Rome. Just FYI, the time difference is 7 hours (6 hours if you are East Coast folks), so it is 10 am there. They take off for Florence in about 3 hours ("ish"). Becky told me that MGM can contact the car company to find out when they will get there, because Sergio will know. So, the adventure begins...and already they get to tell people that they were delayed by a volcano...and the volcano wasn't in Italy!!
