Shortly after checking in we booked a helicopter flight to fly over the Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers and to land on the upper portion of the Fox Glacier. Although Mare and I were in shorts and golf shirts we were warm due to the strength of the sun. Interesting that when we threw snowballs at each other the other helicopter passengers just stared. The ash on the snow is from the fires in Australia. The next morning we walked around Lake Matheson from which I got several interesting photos of the mountains and the glacier. After lunch we setoff to an area that provided a view of the glacier. The going was rough since about 10 days before our arrival they had torrential rains with the result that the trail was in less than the best shape. Our problem was that once we reached the viewing spot we then continued on for a couple more km to the swinging bridge over the torrent of water flowing down from the glacier.

The scenery looks phenomenal and the glacier better and more extensive than any I've seen. It's great to live vicariously through your trip. Love Carroll
