(Joce) We left Puerto Esconditio, and headed a couple of hours south, and we found ourselves at a place called Zipolite in Fernando's RV Park. It was great, super cheap, empty, secure and close to a beautiful beach. There were small waves, perfect for a couple of surfs. To our astonishment the beach was full of naked people, and then allyne was 'oh ya, I read it was a nude beach'... ok allyne. The water was really blue, there were lots of fish, and some really neat white sea stacks. So we stayed there a couple of days.
In Zipolite, we had removed the gas hose to one of our tanks in order to locate the leaks. We decided we needed a new piece of hose, and that we would pick one up in the next town. Fernando told us the name of the place to go, and we thought 'ok easy enough we will do that'. We drove around the city, with really narrow streets, and nowhere to park, and people kept directing us to Rauls Refrreccionaria to get the part. Simon and I finally made the venture on foot, while Allyne and Jordan remained parked in front
another beach where we stayed
the black spots in the sand are dogs of a no parking sign. A guy literally walked us there, witch was lucky, because with the poor signage, we would never have found it on our own. They never had the hose. We decided rather than stay in this crazy town to wait for them to get it in we would continue on our course. We have a second gas tank anyways, so no big deal. Well, we drove down the highway and the whole rv stunk of gasoline. Jordan and Allyne wore bandanas on there faces to keep the smell to a minimum, but we were all stressedl..and apparently high on gas fumes. We headed for Barra de La Cruz, where there was rumored to be good waves. When we arrived however, we found out that the beach was located within a park, and we had to pay a park entrance fee of about $8 or 80 pesos. We reluctantly payed the fee, only to reach the beach and find out that we had missed the good swell. The waves were so small that it was un-surfable. This added even more tension to the crew. To make matters worse, there was no overnight parking within the park. We couldn't stay there, so moved on.
We pulled up to a small restaurant on the beach, a few kilometers from the main highway. There was a large family living there and running the restaurant, as well as a gentleman from california traveling in his camper with his dog. The family had numerous dogs, a heard of sheep, and a horse. The dogs didn't want to play with trooper, so he thought he would try his luck with the sheep. They were head butting him to keep him away from the babies, but he took it as playing. He also ran after the horse, to our astonishment, and didn't respond to our calls. Luckly he is fine, and was tied up the rest of the night for stupid behavior.
We got to a city today, replaced our gas hose and stopped a large supermarcado to stock up on food. After shopping we made lunch in the RV, and left the door open because it was hot. This crazy man came to the door and asked for the chicken that we had already eaten. Jordan gave him some change because the man said he was hungry, but he would not leave. He wanted the chicken, but we had shown him all there were was bones. He took one and through it to the dog ( some guard dog, troop didn't even bark at this weirdo, but barks at the horse!) We gave him a bun and he then insisted on having mayonnaise on it. Jordan offered him some tomato slices for his bun, but he wanted mayonnaise. Allyne finally gave him a squirt of mayo, and we tried to tell him to take off. Started up the RV and drove away... I think that gave him the message.
We got out of that city fast, and are now overnighting at a hotel that let us park our RV in a small town a few hours away called Arriega. We are about 250 km away from Guatemala, so likely will get close to the boarder tomorrow, find somewhere to stay, and then cross in the morning. Wireless internet is getting a little more difficult to find, but we will try to update the blog as much as we can.
