Hey Guys,

Well we arrived safe and sound in New Zealand without any dramas or incidents. Flew out of perth at 10.50pm on Sunday night - on the worlds smallest passenger jet (thankyou Jetstar). As soon as we sat down our knees were touching the seats in front of us. Hayden was lucky enough to have a fattie on his other side, so his was a pretty uncomfy ride - although having said that, he still managed to sleep.

Only a 4.5 hour flight later we arrived in Sydney, grabbed our bags and moseyed on over to the international airport where we had pies for breakfast ... yes, pies ... the breakfast of champions. And let me tell you, Perth has to get themselves a Pieface shop.

Move over Krispy Kremes, if i had to choose between Perth getting either a krispy kremes or a pieface, i would totally pick Pieface. Yes yes big call i know!

So after our delicious, delectable, delightful pies it was pretty much plane boarding time and we legged it over to NZ. Haydens parents had driven up from Whakatane to Auckland (3 hour drive) to get us, which was lovely of them.

We stayed our first night at a friends house in Auckland, then caught back up with haydens folks the next day and made our way to Whakatane. Where we passed out and slept till midday the following day. Awesome. I love jetlag.

So now, we've only been here a few days but we've done a lot.

Yersterday was what I am dubbing the day of failures. It started out with a mission to try and see this crazy circus-freak type dolphin that has been entertaining/terrorizing the good folk of the North Island. This dolphins name is Moko (shorten the 'o's when you say the name). You can read about him
here and
here.

He broke away from his dolphin pod and has been swimming around by himself playing with people, terrorising them, capsizing them from their boats, stealing their paddles, etc. But he plays around like a sea-world dolphin doing flips and tricks and stuff. Sounds cool hey!

So Hayden and I head off on a Finding Moko trek. We decide to start with this beach area where he has been seen a lot. After a bush bash uphill around this coastal area, we catch sight of him further around playing with people in a dinghy. Energised by the sighting, we bush-bash some more and hit the coast line. Where we find it is high tide and really rough, but that doesnt stop us. No, we climb in and over reef and rocks, getting soaked but battling on like the little troopers we are. (I am going at a snails pace due to my dodgy ankle and not wishing to roll it again).

We finally get around to the right coastal area but no sign of Moko. We decide to swim out to see if we can see him, and bang shells together under water. Yeh, right, whoever tells you this is the magic way to summon dolphins was definitely pulling our legs. Hayden thought he would swim out further to try and find him, but I decided i would stay close to shore in case of sharks (ever the perthie hey!). Hayden told me that they dont have a big shark problem in NZ and not to be a wussie ... and then swam back after 5 metres claiming he has been scarred for life living in perth with all the sharks. To our credit the water was horribly murky and rough ... and we're big shark scaredy cats 😊

So unfortunately no playing with Moko today, but we have made it our mission to find the sneaky bugger before we leave.

After that failure we thought we would head out for a burn on Haydens jetboat. Hayden has told me about his jetboat from the moment we met. He loves this thing. Always talking about how he will take me for a drive. So, we load the boat up, head to the dam, get her in the water, peddle to the metal and get up some good speed. We then notice a shit-load of smoke coming from the engine. Hayden cuts the gas and yells for the fire extinguisher, opens up the engine cover and sure enough she's smoking like an indian sweat tent. Luckily no fire. We tried a few things and just couldnt get it to stop smoking. Just between you and me, i think she's-a-goner. But im remaining optimistic for haydy's sake.

So anyways, thats it from us for now. Today we are off on a camping trip with a few of haydens mates for the weekend. It should be awesome, I can't wait.

Hope everyone is well and happy. Email us!!

hugs
Hayds and Lele
