across the Tianjin train station station
I still have almost 4 days left in Beijing after return from Harbin. It needs to go somewhere because I have enough of Beijing already. Tianjin will be the first choice because near by and get there in 30 minutes by the new bullet train. I take me longer to get to the train station by subway. The new line 4 go direct into the train station without get out to the street. There are 3 to 4 trains per hour, very frequent route.

When I ask people in Beijing, everyone except one said there is not much to see in Tianjin. Only one said there are lot of history. That is why I save it until the last open time. The train ride is very smooth and quiet, comfortable seat with lot of leg room. It run at the top speed of 340km/h. It get there at no time.

When I get off the train station, has no ideas where to go. I just bought a map and started walking. There are many venders at the exit try to get, tour, hotel and cars as usual on train stations. One guy approach me for one day tour for

Bullet train
98rmb each for 4 persons. I only by myself he wanted 360rmb for the private tour. We settle down at 280rmb. He appears to be a nice guy. Since I am here only 12 hours, which may be the best way to get the most out of it.

The driver/tourguide is born in Tianjin, so he know a lot of the history. Good for me to practice my Chinese also. The old street is not much different than most other places and right in the middle of town. It is surrounded by high-rises; even within a block has high limit. I am more interest in the old European buildings left by them a century ago by the eight countries. It is very large area compare to other cities like Shanghai. The buildings are well kept. The government lease to the private business.

I think it is a beautiful city with many rivers and next to the ocean. Summer time may be a better time to visit and enjoy the outdoor area. It is colder than Beijing, so it fairly chilly right now. Construction is every where according to their master plan. They also expand the subway system. I spend sometimes in the exhibit of the master plans. It will be look like a new city in 5 years.

The visit is worth it, I do not know most people in Beijing do not know too much about this city. All the admissions are free in this city.
