Since last week we experienced a couple days of pretty sudden cold weather (going from temperatures of 25 degress to 9 in one day) we decided to get a head start and buy some space heaters from Carrefour. My roomate and I found two heaters made by Midea (a reliable brand around town) for only 300 RMB- $60. We asked the people at Carrefour to lend us a hand by delivering our heaters (since they were way to heavy for us to carry). They informed us that it would be no problem to deliver the heaters to our house- free of charge!!! Perfect!! (we thought).
The next day we got home from work, expecting the heaters to arrive at 5:00pm.....5:00 came and passed, and no sign of the heaters. We forgot to get a phone number to contact the store, all we had was a receipt from our purchase.
The following day someone from the store called Rebecca, and she arranged for the heaters to be delivered again at 5:00pm. She told them she had an appointment to go to for 5:30 and would not be able to wait- the lady assured her that they would come. After school we waited, and once again, no heaters. So we marched down to Carrefour ourselves to try and solve the problem. On the way we decided upon a game plan......"we need to be serious, no laughing, be firm and demand something for free". When we got there we asked to speak with a manager in English. They kept saying that "their english was no good" and a manger never came. One of the men we had dealt with previously grabbed a shopping cart and motioned to us that he would take them right now! What???? That is not what we had asked for. We wanted to speak with a manger to explain that we were unhappy with the service and that we spend a lot of money in this store (something that would be common at home in Canada).
The man pushed the buggy towards the exit and a young teenager took the buggy from him. We were wondering at this point what was happening. Were they taking the buggy to the delivery truck? Or what? Before we knew it, we were marching down the street towards our apartment- with the Carrefour, buggy-pushing, teenager following close behind. THIS WAS THE DELIVERY........most of the walk was awkward and Rebecca and I were asking each other, "What is going on?"
We made it to our place and the guy dropped the two heaters inside our doorway.
Well....I guess they made it here.....I just hope nothing goes wrong.
