Who's checking out my hole?

Day 184 - Cape Range National Park

Just a short walk this morning, well it had to slow down at some point! Myself and Bel decided we wanted a walk but not a mammoth one so went half way to the rocky outcrop to the south of our camp. It’s just glorious this early in the morning and today the wind has actually dropped, which is a first!

More snorkelling was in order today and there was a determination to ensure I saw a shark! We headed for the drift loop again at Turquoise Bay which is fast becoming our favourite spot.

It was the usual story initially with everyone spotting a shark except me, I really should stop snorkelling with my shades on maybe! It’s still an amazing experience though, we’re both loving every minute of the snorkelling.

We decide to go round for a second time and this time we’re in luck. We’re snorkelling around and over a bombie quite close to shore and I spot what looks like a shark fin at the bottom in a ‘cave’. I duck dive to get a better look and I’m positive I’ve found a shark. The next few minutes are spent trying to get Nige and Darryl’s attention, always funny when they’re the other side of the coral and I’m bobbing around trying not to get a mouthful of salt water! The sighting is confirmed, it’s a reef shark! Cool! We spend ages swimming around the shark’s hole and duck driving to get a better look. He’s quite big we think but it’s difficult to really tell. Darryl goes back to shore for the camera so Nige and I bob around for a while then start to snorkel off. And that’s when it happened.

The shark came out of his hole to see who was checking him out! He swam out from the opposite side to where we were and then swam straight towards me, if I was a sea cucumber the water would have turned brown! He swam passed and circled the bombie then went back into his cave! How awesome, a moving shark! Ultra cool! He was about 5 feet in length we think and moved through the water so beautifully.

Our little camp ground has a great party atmosphere going now and this afternoon we all got involved in helping Nige with his ‘assignments’ for the Canon photography competition where the prize is a 5D camera! Very exciting! One of the categories is moving liquid and Nige has some watered down paint to use with Mark volunteering to be his subject! It’s all very good fun and Simone is happy to pour the paint over Mark while he relaxes on the sand dunes! The effect Nige gets is awesome, I’m stood at a different angle and at the opposite end but Nige’s photograph makes it look like Mark has been shot rather than something has been poured on to him! Fingers crossed he’s got the winning entry!

The night continues with fishing and the ‘fish witches’ were even invited to watch tonight, the temporary embargo has been lifted since two small fishes were caught on previous nights!

The wine flowed, the neighbours joined in and Mark entertained us all singing and playing the guitar with Bel joining in. It was an excellent night, very funny and lucky for us the wind was sending the noise out to sea so nobody else was disturbed!

Nothing to do with your Blog
Almost nothing anyway, great stuff Sarah, we're having so much fun with you guys and the under water shots are great. Now business, we're at Williambury and we love it and they have room for you two, check your phone because I left the phone number in a message there and didn't bring it to the computer, anyway, it's really cool here (in a hot kind of way) and you guys would love it, if you can organise some time here we would stay longer to hang with you here. Awesome photo opportunities to Sarah, got a panorama of an approaching storm from the hill behind the house, got caught in a dust storm an everything, it was very adventurous. So guys, get on the phone and get your butts out here, we miss you and it's really good.
