Day 12
Lovina Beach
We basically did nothing all day except lay around and drink beer. I read and Peter went to the pool where he chatted with some Aussies and met an older Canadian man traveling alone.
We noticed a lot of people traveling alone here. One lady summed it up. It’s safe. She told me she is divorced her kids are grown and she feels comfortable going to Bali by herself because of this. I have to agree. I saw no threats or reason for anyone to be afraid of the area. Just the drivers!
The staff at the hotel is so accommodating. I noticed this every where you go. They are one step ahead of you. It’s like they are anticipating your every move. When you go into the local businesses they go out of their way. The locals are simple and don’t require comforts like us. The locals have realized the Westerners are not like them. Most times when you walk in a store the lights are off. When you walk into a business to get a massage or eat, the lights come on the fans start and the incense is lit. They start to tidy up all around you to make it what they think you want. It makes me feel uncomfortable in a way. I’m not arrogant Westerner but I get the feeling they think we are high maintenance. Then again maybe we are.
