We always ask first if it is ok to take pictures. They all stop and allow us to. Once the pic is taken they just carry on!
Day 5 Oct 7th
Benoa Bay and the snaggle tooth.
The day started with breakfast at the resort.
Peter and I rented a motorbike. 5 days for $22 USD. Panic and fun all rolled into one! Driving on the other side of the street takes a lot of getting used to. We went North to Tanjung Benoa. This area is a fishing village and the local economy thrives on tourists who want to go out to try to catch the big one or those who want the thrill of parasailing and jet skiing.
We had a great time weaving in and out of the villages. We really got a taste of the local lifestyle. On thing a little freaky is there seemed to be a bit of a Muslim influence in this area. There was a large Mosque in the middle of the village. On top of one of the structures there was a megaphone blaring out chants that sound a lot like what we hear on the evening news.
The area is very old and has a combination of Chinese, Bugis (adventurous seafaring Muslims) and Balinese living there.
We got to see an ancient Chinese temple that was built by traders and fishermen. A place they would go to have fortune tellers advise them on where to find the next big catch.
Every thing is great. We had the perfect amount of sun, the breeze in our hair and great sights. As were weaving in and out of the streets we're pointing out this and that. Oooing and ahhing at all the exotic sights. Mid sentence Peter head spins around and says “my tooth fell out”. Are you kidding me? I wanted to turn around and find it. Peter didn’t want to bother.
Peter was having problems with one of his teeth before the trip. He’s been careful not to bite into anything using his front teeth. Now he has half a front tooth and no dentist in sight for at least another 14 days.

School just let out! All the kids in uniforms and are smiling. Most of the uniforms look as though they have been handed down, maybe from older siblings?

Before you leave the Monkey Farm
Tell Peter before you leave the Monkey Farm to forage around...I'm sure there are a few good looking monkey teeth he can collect to replace his missing ivory. But then apparently he fits in better with the locals if he has a missing or broken tooth. The pictures are great. Have a great time.
