South Africa

Hi everyone!!! We just recently left South Africa and it was so amazing!! It was my favorite place that we have been to thus far. I fell in love with it so much that I want to move there! Haha we’ll see if that actually happens. The morning that we arrived in Cape Town it was so foggy that we were really delayed at getting into our place at the dock. We had to wait around on the ship for a few hours until it cleared up. The view of Cape Town from the ship was so beautiful Table Mountain was breathtaking. When we finally got off the ship, four of my friends and I were ready to go off on our Baz Bus adventure! We bought these 7-day bus passes to go up the Garden Route. Basically we could get on and off in whatever town we wanted along a certain route. We had to call like a day in advance to reserve spots on the bus but sometimes it ended up being full so we had to change our plans.
That first day we actually stayed in a hostel in Cape Town on Long Street. We walked from the ship port up to Long Street and the first hostel we walked into we ended up staying at. It was like $8 a person per night and it wasn’t that bad at all. We dropped our stuff off and then walked up Long Street and went to this really cool outdoor market. The day we got there was Valentine’s Day, so when we were at dinner there were couples everywhere. All of us were craving Mexican food, so we went to this really good Mexican place-it hit the spot! J The next morning we had to get up early to catch the bus and it went to a few hostels in Cape Town to pick people up. We were on the bus for about 7 hours the first day. It made stops all along the way picking and dropping people off and taking food breaks. The first place that we stayed in was called Wilderness. It was a very tiny little town and the hostel we stayed in was called Fairy Knowe, it was like a 30 min. walk to get to the town from the hostel. The hostel was so cute, the rooms were really nice and the people that worked there were so friendly. It was a really relaxed atmosphere, there was a pool table and really good music was always playing. The next day, the breakfast in the morning was amazing! We had homemade bran muffins and bread, fresh fruit with yogurt and granola-so good. We walked to the beach, which was a nice way to see the area around the hostel, and we went swimming in the Indian Ocean! We couldn’t swim out very far though because the undertow was pretty strong. That night we took the Baz Bus to a town called Plettensburg. Once again the hostel was really nice-all of the ones that we stayed in were great. It was my friend Annee’s birthday so we went out and had a nice dinner and got a bottle of champagne to celebrate. The next day we decided that we liked Wilderness so much that we wanted to go back! It was a Friday so at night there was a market in the town with foods and crafts and great music to listen to. After the market was over the musicians went to the hostel that we were staying at to continue to play music. A lot of people came to the hostel to listen. We met some locals who were really nice and the next day they took us to this “secret beach” where only locals usually go and they went boogie boarding. The beach was so gorgeous. There were these really high rocky cliffs that went straight up. It was so fun to hang out with the locals and get the ultimate tour from them. Later that afternoon we took a short bus ride to Knysna, which was a busier town then most of the ones, we had been to. When we got to the hostel we all took a nap because we were so tired. That night we went out to dinner and ended meeting up with the locals we had met the night before. We went to this one point where there was a lighthouse, some people went swimming, I didn’t it was to cold for me!
We woke up and had a really great breakfast down in the harbor of Knysna. We walked around the town and did a little shopping. We had to get back to the hostel to catch the bus to Stelenbosch. Stelesnbosch is in the wine country and is about 30 min. out of Cape Town, so we had another really long bus ride that day… we didn’t arrive until later in the evening. As we were walking around the town that night we were walking by a bar and it was the bid night for a fraternity, it was packed with boys! It was a little crazy though so we kept on walking... we found a really cute little café and had coffee and dessert. The next morning we did errands around the town and later caught a taxi back to Cape Town. We didn’t have to be back on the ship until 9:00 that night so everyone kind of branched off and did last minute things that they wanted to do. I had such a great time and really want to go back to see more! I hope everything is great with all of you! Cheers! Tiana

sorry about no pictures everyone, for whatever reason the website will not upload them...I will keep trying
