Arriving in Dublin late it was straight to Days Hotel, which was in the middle of nowhere and close to nothing. We had a Crazy drunk taxi man drive us from the airport to the hotel doing 120 in a 60 zone.....but he did advise us that he has only lost his licence 6 times which was reassuring. We were charged twice for the hotel and when we got there they told us that they had given our room away.......Free Upgrade though......It was up early and into town for us the next day.....Di-sy had a miagrane so we had to leave one soldier behind. We had a lovely breakfast in a quaint bar in the city before heading to the sights........We explored St Trinity's College, Molly Molone, Dublin Castle, St Patricks of course and visited the wax museum that had apparently melted down before we got there as we could not find it. We then met Di-sy just in time for a couple of Guinnesses at the Brewery and then onto Temple Bar via a horse and cart before starting our pub crawl and food sampling....Jen was in search for the best irish stew....and Andy the best Irish Guinness. On the
way home it was a long wait for the bus as all the drivers were in the pub watching the Ireland Internation Football game.
On to Galway the next day so we hired a car and began the windy journey. We stopped on the way for a carvery at a pub as it was fathers day and we enjoyed the festivities. We stayed the night at a Best Western and headed into town for another meal and some drinks......An Irish hooker tried to pick up Daley whilst we were trying to find a place to settle in before finally agreeing on a nice pub with massive meals and good service.
The next day it was off to Kilarney via the Cliffs of Moher which provided spectacular views....but as one American tourist informed us on the way in 'Their nothing but a bunch of cliffs, i wouldn't waste my time'. We thought it was well worth it.......We then headed to Limerick, just in time to miss the Angela's Ashes tour that we intended to go on so we just had a look around the shops and ate some lunch before back in the car. Arriving in Killarney with no
place to stay we headed into the city centre and began our quest to find a bed for the night.......We stumbled upon an absolute bargain at this magical 4 star Hotel right in the heart of the city for only 120 euros for both couples only to find out once we had taken them it was per room and not all together.....DOH....A cheap meal and some drinks were on order so we headed to the local pub 'Murphys'. Jen discovered the Irish stew that ended up taking the title of 'Best Stew 2009' and everyone enjoyed magnificent food and service......Highly recommend this place. We did sleep well though in our King Beds at the Royal Killarney.
It was off to Cork that morning via the Ring of Kerry. Unfortunetly the weather was not perfect but the drive was an experience in itself and what views we did get looked amazing. We ventured to Blarney Catle and proceeded to climb the 1000 or so spiraling staircase to the top to plant a kiss on the infamous stone that promises eternal elequence.....We are still to find it......Although the experience of puckering up our lips and hanging over the side of a
castle.......backwards......was well worth it......Hmmmmm. Onto Cork as we were starving and needed some food stat. Cork was a mad arse place to drive and traffic was crazy.....Road works and traffic jams everywhere. We ended up staying at the Best Western Ambassitor, with budget blown clear out of the water but it proving a stunning old building with a free spa and gym......Hooray. We headed to the bar and watched some football, ate some food and........you guessed it drank some more pints.
Today it was back to Dublin via Kilkenny. Where.....you guessed it.....we ate Irish Stew and Drank Pints of Kilkenny. We made it to Dublin safe and sound with time up our sleeve for some shopping in the city......When we returned to our car we found that it was no longer there......with everyone freaking out that we had been 'carjacked' it was off to the police station....They were only too kind to tell us it had infact been towed and was clamped around the corner for our convience. 80 euros and 2 hours later we managed to get it back on the road and were only 1 hour late for our rental car return......We didnt tell them why. We
then headed to our hotel and started the pile of washing we were desperatly needing clean only to find that the dryer was broken and there was 'nothing we can do for you sir'.......15 kilos instantly added to our already esculated luggage, we were on our way to london
