Edit Blog Post
The time has just flown here and we have done so much that it seems, in some ways, we have been here for ages. Not missing an opportunity for a bit of fun and a few (more) drinks, we pushed through the jetlag and headed into Edinburgh to a Scottish Ceilidh on our first ‘real’ night here. Now for those who might not know, I am definitely NOT the kind of person who will get up on centre stage and try to dance in front of a group of people (despite the ‘instructions’ on the steps being given from the band), especially stone cold sober! (well, actually, I tell a lie. That probably only applies if I AM stone cold sober…) But pay heed, there is no, I repeat NO, arguing with a Scotsman in a kilt! So off to the dance floor Sian, Jen and I were rushed and quickly showed them the depth of the lack of experience we had had in Scottish dancing!
A few ‘drams’ later, however, we were dancing like pros (well, I guess you CAN interpret that any way you want!) and had the Gay Gordans, Dashing White Sergeant, Canadian Barn Dance, and Strip
the Willow down pat! After a couple of hours of Scottish dancing, the Ceilidh was finished and a fantastic band came on. By this time we were well and truly ‘primed’ and I have to say that I danced so much that by the end of the night my hips were excruciatingly painful, and I could hardly walk the next day!!! (God only knows what all that hip swinging and gyrating looked like but I had a lot of fun and a great work out, and I was by no means the subject of people’s attention on the floor! That ‘honour’ went to two bleached-blonde, orange-skinned-fake-tanned women in their 60s who were ‘dirty dancing’ with their young, tall, polished-headed, immaculately dressed ‘escorts’ for the night! Trust me…it was NOT attractive!!)
