Sharon and I navigated our way to Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz having been given detailed instructions by Cesar Jr. He had also told us his father ran a hostel in Puerto Ayora and whilst we had our first night booked we confirmed we would head out to his fathers place for the rest of the week.

Having checked into the hotel in the town we went for a wander to see what Puerto Ayora had to offer. We were both glad that we weren't staying the the hotel any longer as it left a lot to be desired we just hoped that Cesar Srs place would be nicer and once again we were very lucky!!

Tuesday morning we checked out of the hotel and jumped into a taxi and showed him the instructions Cesar Jr had given us. After a stop at a local tailors as the driver didn't know where he was going we found ourselves at our home for the week. Cesar Sr wasn't around but his wife, the local dentist, showed us in. It transpired we had a two bedroom apartment including kitchen and living area all to ourselves! The first time in our trip that Sharon and I hadn't shared a room.

Tuesday afternoon we headed to the Charles Darwin Centre to have a look at Lonesome George and his tortoise friends. Lonesome George is a giant Pinta Tortoise and is the last of his kind. At the present time he is housed at the centre with two females who have similar genetics to him in the hope that he will mate unfortunately he is showing no signs of wanting to mate and so there is a possibility the that extinction is around the corner. The centre also have a project to rescue the tortoise that is particular to Espana Island and at the present time this is becoming a succesful project and they have been able to reintroduce some tortioses born in captivity back onto the island.

Wednesday found us paying a visit to Tortuga Bay. We had been told by various people that it was worth a visit and so we set off with swimming gear in hand. it took us an hour and a half to walk to the beach but is was more than worth it. Despite the weather being cloudy we both caught the sun and I even ventured into the sea for a dip and tested out my new snorkeling gear!

Thursday was a chilled day and spent around the town buying more gifts and for me doing some paperwork and jobs in preparation for leaving on Saturday. It was also washing day.....

Friday was a day of packing and again chilling out again. Sharon and I headed into town for our last meal together and Saturday morning soon came around meaning that Sharon and I had to part our ways and she was to spend another week in the Galapagos whilst I headed to Quito in order to catch my flight to Santiago and onto Auckland on Sunday.

The goodbyes were swift and little was said in oder to prevent the tears. I headed to the airport and caught my flight to Quito with little drama.

As an aside I want to say a thank you to Deirdre (Sharon) for coming with me. We have had our ups and minor downs as to be expected when living and traveling with someone 24/7 however if it wasn't for you coming with me I wouldn't have traveled around South America and therefore not seen or experienced any of what we have done. I have had a fab time so thank you very much and I promise you are now added to my postcard list - just remember how much they cost out of my budget so treasure each and everyone!! =;0)

Take care for the rest of your week in the Galapagos. Don't worry about your flights home! Stay in touch. Brim xx
