Our arrival in Cusco was less thankfully less dramatic than in Puno and the hostel that had been recommended to us whilst hard to find as it was down a random side street with a gated entrance and no sign however it was a great little place.

That night we signed ourselves up to go and watch the local football match the next day Cusco v Lima. Sunday morning we got up and walked into the old town and soon found oursleves in the Plaza de Armas where an official parade was going on. We watched the armed forces and police do an official salute and veryone stood and sang the national anthem whilst the Peruvian flag was lifted and they then sang a different song whilst the Rainbow flag (in reference to the Incas) was lifted. A procession then started past the flags. The procession included lots of local school children dressed in uniform carrying their school flags. We then headed back to the hostel to meet the group going to the match.

It ended up that we went to the match with Paul the hostel owner, his cousin Dave who ran the bar and three other lads from America. The tickets for the match cost us 80p each and we were sat in the stands. Whilst I am not a great football fan I do know the rules (including the offside rule!) and in all honesty the match we watched was of pretty poor quality however we did have a laugh and it was funny watching the home crowd abuse their own players.....

After the match we all headed back to the hostel and had a few beers. Dave and Paul decided that they were going to visit a rival hostel as a friend was running the bar for the night so Sharon and I inadvertently found ourselves our second job of this trip and we ended up playing barmaids for a few hours!!

Monday was another relaxed day for us as we wandered around the streets of Cusco spending our money on more presents for home and also slotting in a few cultural visits like the cathedral. We also bought our tickets for Machu Picchu for Wednesday.

Tuesday was the start of our mission to get to Aguas Calientas and Machu Picchu by a relatively unknown route but more of that in the next blog......

P.S Happy Birthday Rachel sorry you didn't get a card but as I said in my text I do have a present for you but you will have to wait till December to receive it.... Sorry!
