When everyone got up today, I still was having pain. Sarah and I know it as the exploding intestines. Yesterday was a little better, but only because I didn’t eat much. This morning, I only had 3 scoops of peanut butter for breakfast- just enough to take my pills and not really eat anything. I headed into the workshop, where people were busy sanding the new tables and chairs. I opted to walk down to the school to see what the others were doing.

When I got to the school, one of the teachers told me that Spencer, Robertta, Chelsea and Sarah went to the forest to get firewood very far away. I was exhausted just from the walk to the school, so I found my way into the staff room to chat with my new friends. We had some good conversations, and one of the teachers even offered to let me teach his class. That was my cue to go back to the woodshop.

I did a bit of sanding, but the filler was still wet so there wasn’t much we could do. When they left for lunch, I went back to the school, hoping the others would be back. They weren’t, so I chatted with the teachers some more. They have great insight on a lot of things. One of them also told me I could use her internet stick on Monday! (There is no internet anywhere in this town, and I’ve only seen 2 computers.)

One of the teachers came and asked me if I wanted to go for a walk. Walking is all I had really done all day, but I consented. We walked to her house, where her 11-month old son was. She told me she came everyday at lunchtime because he had to “suck.” We had a nice chat as well, and she asked a lot of questions about what life was like in the States. Again, it was a day centered on relationships.

By the time we got back, the wood people had returned. Apparently, they had hauled wood up and down a mountain for several hours. The locals then took the logs and used a chainsaw and string to cut them into 2x4s. I’m pretty impressed. Sarah and I were ready to be done for the day, so we came back to the house.

I had a few more intestine explosions, but I think it’s over now. I ate some dinner- just mashed potatoes and peas, since it’s soft- to see how it would fare. I was hungry! As far as I can tell, it is doing ok in my system, so I should be able to help more tomorrow… I hope.

After dinner, we had lots of fun. Sarah and I are actually pretty funny in real life and had the Africans rolling in their seats. I showed the 6-year old how I can fold things with my toes, and he was not sure what to do with it!
