Well, day 2 in Amsterdam began with a walk from our apartment to the Centraal train station where we took a cruise of the harbour and canals. It turned out to be a beautiful day as the pics show. Afterward we walked back to our apartment and along the way stopped for a beer and and a snack (fries and mayonnaise - a local delicacy!) It started to rain so we and another couple with two small children moved under a canopy. We started to talk to them and discovered they were from Vancouver. They had house-swapped with a couple from Amsterdam for 3 months. We talked some more and the Olympics came up. Turns out, the woman's mother is a figure skating judge and my co-worker, Sally Rehorick, who retired 2 yrs ago from UNB, was at her mom's house last week for supper! How weird is that? They were very nice and we would have liked to stay and have another Heineken with them but we had to leave to find our way home - which we did. Later we went out to supper to an Argentinian Steak House which we learned here doesn't really mean the owners are Argentinian, or that the beef is Argentinian - it is just a name. We saw so many Argentinian steak houses that i was curious about the connection between the Netherlands and Argentina. Tomorrow we are off to Utrecht!

Bobs Youth Hostel
I forgot to mention that the picture of Bobs Youth Hostel is the same BYH that I stayed in when I was in Amsterdam in 1981! Lenora didn't want to stay there this time.
