Москва - June 21st - 25th, 2009

After sleeping 4 hours in St. Petersburg, we had to pack up and catch the 9am flight to Moscow. We took the metro with all the drunks getting home from the celebration of the night before, and made it to the airport on time. 2 hours later we were in Moscow, and as usual it was pissin' on us again. We wandered around for an hour trying to find our hostel, and eventually stumbled on it after passing right by it twice. We were pretty pooped from the night before, hungry and just feeling all arounf shitty. That quickly changed as soon as we fed ourselves and got some Russian Vodka, the name of which we dont know because it was written in Cryllic. We ended up partying our first night away in the hostel with one German, a Chinese, a Mongol and oddly enough, a guy from Waterloo. Small world. We basically spent our 3 days in Moscow touring around the Kremlin and Red Square. It's right at the center of Moscow, and all the major sights are near there. It was truly beautiful, full of gardens, cafes and fountains. As beautiful as Moscow was, one of the most memorable things were definetly the gorgeous women. I was worried that Dan's neck would break (mine as well). These women have beauty, grace and most of all style! It was like a runway each day we toured the city.

We got to go into the Kremlin on the second day, which was neat. We stumbled upon a 5 person choir singing in St. Basil's Cathedral, which was amazing to listen to. They were so good that the songs sounded more like a CD than a choir.
We even got to go see the embalmed body of Lenin himself, the founder of modern communism, who has been on display since his death in 1924. Behind the mausoleum are buried most of the USSR's leaders, including Joseph Stalin, who oddly had more flowers on his grave then anyone else. Oddly, I say, because he is still revered in the country where his policies wiped out more than 30 million people.

Our last day in Moscow, we went to a massive outdoor market which we quickly dubbed the Walmart of the East. Except it was way better than any Walmart we've ever been to. In this labirinth market you could buy anything you ever needed, including wedding dresses, mattresses, suitcases, and tools. Anything and everything, and you could buy ten of them if you so desired.

On our last night in Moscow Dan finally fullfilled one of his main reasons for coming to Russia...going shot for shot with a red blooded Russian! Poland vs. Russia! The night started off ordinarily enough with a game of cards and ended with the Russian strangely enough refusing Dan's offer of one last shot. Dan made me proud and drank the Russian under the table! Then he proceeded into a vodka coma complete with all night snoring! Yet another sleepless night, but a proud moment none the less! Great Success!!!

Interesting Facts:
* Cheapest bottle of Vodka we could find was only 119 RUP ($4.40 CAD)
* Moscow has the worlds most used subway system
* Ordinary drivers act as taxi's and will drive you to your destination (for a fee of course)
