The was the view from my friends host families house.
It had been a while since I had seen a new town. Since lots of my friends have moved to a new town for internship I thought I would start my visiting. A good friend named Lori moved to a town called Röttingen. It is a tiny town in northern Bavaria near the Romantic Street. It is about a 4-hour train ride to her town but I always enjoy a nice train ride through Germany. I left on Friday and Lori told me I would meet her host parents in Würzburg since her town doesn’t have a main train station. I got there and met her host mom who is actually the same age as us and they drove me to Röttingen. The village only has 2,000 people and it looks like a stereotypical quaint little German town. That night we had dinner with Lori’s host grandparents. It was fun to sit down with a new family that was very traditional Bavarian. We had large dumplings for dinner with German goulash and of course a good Bavarian beer.

The next morning we planned on going to the town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Our bus came at about 9:30am so

we walked over and waited. After a while we looked at the bus times on the list and noticed a little telephone next to the time. Apparently since the town is so small you have to call the bus to have it come at the right time. The next bus didn’t come for about 3 hours. We kind of gave up the idea of going to Rothenburg and thought it would be fun to have a walk around her town. She wanted to show me where she worked so we walked to the next town over about 12kms away. It was a long walk but the scenery was very pretty and it was fun to see German farm country. Once we got to the next town we checked the bus and decided to call. We waited around for the bus at an ice cream shop that was the home to a 3 legged cat. Got to love small town Germany. We expected a normal bus or even a large van, but instead we got a little old lady in her car. It was pretty funny since she was basically a nice tour guide on the ride to Rothenburg. We walked

around the beautiful town of Rothenburg, which still has its old medieval wall. Walking around the wall is really neat to see since you can view the whole town from above. It is very touristy and every street looks like a postcard. We walked around but since we had walked so much that day we became tired quickly. It also doesn’t take long to walk around the small town since the main city is relatively small. We headed home after eating a schneeball. It is little pieces of dough fried and covered in chocolate. We spent the rest of the evening relaxing and watching the German version of American Idol called Deutschland Sucht den Superstar.

I headed home on the train on Sunday but of course had troubles with my train running out of power and having to switch trains. I made it home late but had a good weekend before my parents came the next Friday.

The small towns we walked through are really typical old German villages.

ooohhh Rothenburg!! I visited it on a Sunday, and nothing was open except for the torture museum and it was freezing cold out! I have about ten pictures of kids running down the wall! I hope all is well!
