Asher J says 'one million goodbyes"
Our favourite yank Brycen's new son, Asher, knows where it's at. I've never seen a kid who looks more like a stoner than Asher. Must get those looks from Jenny. Drama Numero Uno
We have now only three days to go, and already the drama has begun. We had previously asked out travel agent about Visas, and he told us that we didn’t need any. We asked about Cambodia and he said all we needed was US$20 and a passport photo when we arrived at the airport in Phnom Penh. BUT… my little bro was here yesterday arvo and asked if we had our visas ready. And I’m like ‘no we don’t need any’. He’s like ‘yes you do’. I’m like ‘no we don’t’. He’s like ‘yes you do’. Me being me (always right that is) kept this banter going back and forth many more times, before admitting defeat and checked the trusty Lonely Planet Guide. And, yes you guessed it, David was right. So it was nearly 5pm, with four days to go, and I ring the travel agent. They say that our travel agent is conveniently not working for the company any more. And they say that it is our responsibility to organise the visas. My ass. Maybe that would be the case if they told us that yes, we do need a visa. So anyway the other travel agent rings the visa people, who say that the price has risen from $72 to $180 (EACH!!) and that we would have to pay a $30 courier fee. He then rings the manager who was told that the Vietnamese consulate is closed. So they then ring back the visa company, who is by that time closed for the day.
So today, Jen and I get up early to get into the city by 9am, pay $5 to park for 20 minutes, and go see the manager. She calls the company who confirm that the consulate is closed but will except emergent applications. I say I am not prepared to pay the urgency fee since this is not my error, and she agrees to refund us the difference. Excellent. Seems that all will work out. She then asks us for our passports, and…. We didn’t bring them. Woops. And the courier will be there at 10am to pick up our applications. So we run across to Camera House to have passport photos taken (where you can’t smile and Jen looks stoned!! If she lets me I will put her photo up here for you) and then run back to the car, run home to get the passports, (where one of the lifts is being repaired, so had to wait for the other lift, but thankfully not too long) and then run to the post office to get a money order for $360. so finally we get back in the city by 10.30am and have missed the courier. So I park illegally, get Jen to run in, fill out the forms, and bring them back to the car and I drive to Coorparoo to drop them off at the courier people. So all in all out visas and passports will arrive back in Brisbane on Monday morning, before we fly out Monday night.
So hopefully, this is our first and only drama, but I am sure it won’t be. Apart from that we just have to pack, make space in the wardrobe for our guests who are looking after our place (this is a surprisingly big job - I have a room for clothes, and jenny has a room for clothes!), and then just have one million goodbyes to say and we are finally off. I will believe it only when we are actually taking off in the plane. I was so sure that Jenny would be stricken down with appendicitis, or someone we know would lose a leg and need us, or some other crazy reason that we wouldn’t actually be achieving this. But no, it looks like we will be going after all. So fingers crossed to smooth sailing from here.
Love ya guts
