Floating
so fun...floating in the ocean! When I wrote a few days ago, I had thought that I was getting ready to leave Nha Trang. Except now I am still here. Every day I say "I will leave tomorrow" and then I never do. I have heard many stories of people who come for 2 days and stay for 2 years, but I swear, I am leaving tomorrow!! Tomorrow will be my 1 week in Nha Trang point and I think that makes it time to move on!!!
I have had another great few days. The strange thing is, you rarely meet any Americans while traveling. Until you stay in a hostel in Nha Trang. The first 2 people to move into my room were 2 girls from the bay area who had gone to USC (Fight On!!) and then another bay area girl came who then was joined up with 4 of her friends. It was crazy...we all felt like we met no Americans and then all of a sudden there were 8 of us in one room! and 7/8 from Cali with me living in Cali. Then a 9th arrived and she happens to have also gone to USC (us Trojans are everywhere!) and
Where do you think they are from?
Even guys get custom clothes in Hoi An! They are ready for St. Patty's day!! lives in Santa Monica. crazy. We also have had one Aussie guy who has been staying with us and I am pretty sure he must have requested the room with all the Cali girls! I also think it may be some sort of conspiracy. I am just not sure what kind.
The weather finally cleared up and I have spent a few days on the beach (it is beautiful!!) and 1 day at an orphange. One day at the beach, we rented tubes and just floated in the sea and that was so fun. Every night we have been going out and that has also been super fun. We had one quite dramatic night though when we decided to go to a nice dinner. We were having a pretty in depth discussion on malaria, dengue fever and all else that can go wrong with the bugs here and one of our friends from Ireland started to get up saying he was going for a walk and completely passed out and hit his head on the ground. Being the health care person of the group, I ran over and it was pretty scary cause it almost seemed like he was
Ballet time
who knows why we thought it was a good idea to do ballet on the dance floor at a bar? having a seizure. He was breathing and his heart was going and he came to pretty quick and told us that he is a normal passer outer. That made me feel better because, being a normal passer outer myself, I realize that when it happens often, you totally know that it is going to be fine and really is nothing to worry about. During this drama, another one of our friends ended up having a bit of a panic attack over this which she does not normally do and so that freaked her out even more. What a fun bunch we were that night! Everything ended up being good and we had a fabulous dinner...pumpkin ravioli with butter sage sauce and wine! A nice break from all the Vietnamese food I've been eating!!
The day we went to the orphange, we went with the owner of our hostel who had been there a few times to help out. The kiddos were so so so cute and it was a really nice orphange. It was about an hours drive from town into the mountains and the kids were so happy to have us there. There were only a few tiny
Orphanage
She was so cute!! babies, lots of little ones and then a few older kids. I went into PT mode and got quite upset when I found one girl who definitely had some form of CP and it didn't seem like they were doing much with her. One of the girls I have met is an OT student and may stay around to help more there so I am hoping maybe she can help her out a little! I didn't get to fully assess her or anything because being that I was only there one day, I really didn't want to upset her too much and she didn't like to be touched very much. We made a video of our trip there and then got back to town and planned a bar event in order to raise money to take the kids to the beach. We printed up fliers, made a banner and went out promoting. Many people were into the idea and donated to the cause...and ofcourse the promise of a free drink helped! I have been here so long at this point that we know tons of people around town too which helped! The event had a good turn out, but I
crying baby
He was too cute when sad! am not sure how much we raised. The beach trip was supposed to be today, but is going to end up being tomorrow, which I will not be able to go, cause I swear, I am leaving tomorrow!
Today's plan was to either go to a water park or the beach and we decided on the beach, except once I walked downstairs I realized it is raining. yucko. I guess I will spend the day being productive and then maybe sitting by the beach. Maybe it will clear up!
Here's a good one...I was talking with one of my young Irish friends and we were discussing how my bday was coming up. He asked how old and I told him I was very old....I am so old compared to most people here...he said, ha ha what, 75 years old? and I said, no 89. He said oh, 89, you aren't so old, you will only be turning 20! Ha! Not so much!! And then I shocked him with my real age!
Alright, time to upload some pics....oh yeah and when I leave tomorrow I will be heading out on a journey to Dalat with one of the
Orphanage
