The city of Beppu is considered to be Onsen paradise. Onsens are natural hot springs. We were basically in Spa paradise. The proper etiquette of Onsens is that you have to be in your birthday suit going into the hot spring. The hot spring is for soaking only and not for bathing. The birthday suit deal took a little of getting use too. It did not help that I was entering into the Onsen with a Caucasian. Of course he got the stares and because I was with him I got them too. Going to an Onsen is sort of like a social gathering. You’re naked and the person next to you is as well. You really have nothing to hide and this way your kind of like everyone’s equal. We spent the whole day in Beppu experiencing natural Mud Baths, Sulfur Bath, and regular Natural Hot Springs. One of the Onsens had an interesting way of describing someone’s experience….refer to the picture.

"The earth has giv en the hotspring source such viscosity that it almost seems alive. The way the mud clings to me reeks of primordial bestiality."...hmmm Oh yea, that makes me want to go to the hot springs now...hahaha
