Friday 13th February. The Otonan
Once again Jayden’s Otonan was a huge affair with bells, whistles, padandas (priests), holy water, live chickens and ducks, family and friends and a whole lot more. If you would like to know more about the Balinese Otonan or birthday then take a look here: http://blog.baliwww.com/arts-culture/1378
It can explain it a whole lot better than me. I am just going to explain it using photographs. Enjoy!

You have to wear all the right gear for an otonan and take it seriously too. Jayden certainly did

Such a loving pair, you would never know that they fight just like any other siblings. Cute though, huh?

It's very much a male, female thing. I'm chatting to Elis, Inda's sister. She is every bit as stunning as her sister, clever too!

Jayden was a bit distraught at this point, but his mum thought it was hilarious. Wicked woman!

We prayed and paid respect to the ancestors, Jayden prayed for it all to be over.

Jayden really wasn't sure that he wanted to be the centre of attention any more.

Oh, come on! I now have to suffer the humiliation of being put in a chicken basket? This had better be worth it. And if Oma puts this on her bloody travel blog........

Wow! Felt pretty good and ready for action after the blessing. Have got one of the flowers from my hair, pressing in a book by the Dalai Lama right now.

It was lovely then just to sit and chat, although Toby had to translate for me, I could still tell that the Padanda, whom I have met before, is a very charismatic person.

Jayden’s Otonan
Great to see these 'party' pictures. We are looking forward to our visit to Bali in May 09. Aimee's birthday was a great success with cake cutting, blowing out candles and plenty of kids to liven up the occasion. good luck on your trip to India. Slumdog was a bit of an eye opener! Cheers Nick

Jaydon's big day
Thanks for sharing these photos. Other countries' cultures are so interesting. Loved your outfit. It doesn't look as hot and humid as you said it is.

Hi Beverley Great photographs of you and the family. Happy Birthday for the 28th, sorry I missed it. Claire's friend had a lunch for her baby shower yesterday and it was nice to see Claire out on a leave pass from the hopsital. She is now walking with sticks and using the wheelchair but making good progress. Going home next weekend so maybe catch up with the girls. Hope all is going well with you. Take care Luv Sandy
