We arrived in Cochin after a 6 hour bus journey from Kumily, strangely enough the bus dropped us off in a petrol station at the side of the road. Cochin is the largest city in Kerala and is made up a several islands (Ernakulum, Fort Cochin, Willington, Bolgatty and Gundu Harbor). We caught the ferry for Rs 2.5 to Fort Cochin which is where you can see the Chinese fishing nets in action.

Here we stayed in a lovely home stay, the guy who managed the home stay gave us a film to watch called “One day in Cochin” which gives you an understanding of the history and culture. He also played a small role in the film which was random.

Cochin is quite the tourist spot, we hired a scooter for the day to make the trip to Cherai Beach on Vypeen island with 300m of very hot sea shore.

We took a trip over to Ernakulum to book train tickets to Goa, this was no easy task. After queuing up at 3 separate places we were told we needed our passports to make the booking and 3rd class AC was not available (lots of classes on trains in India), then we had to speak to the station supervisor who allowed us to have a ticket, we queued up again to pay, then again to see station supervisor to release tickets without our passports - all part of the fun!
