Cruise ship course to get to La Paz

Here we are in La Paz , Mexico. WE arrived here via cruise ship, on the Celbrity Mercury- coming thru the Panama Canal. It was a great trip, lasting 12 days. We disembarked the ship 2 days early in order to come here to La Paz.
The house we've rented is quite nice- much smaller than we had expected, but it' s just fine for us! Especially us boaters! ALl of the rooms exit to a courtyard, and the only connected rooms are the master bedroom and the bathroom. You have to go outside to get to any of the others.
THe days are beautiful- sunny and warm, but not too warm. Thenights are cool- perfect for sleeping- but you need a sweater to go outside.
The boardwalk here is amazing- you better start practicing your walking! It goes for about 4 kms- all along the sea front. There are numerous benches along the way, and statues- and then the shops on the other side with cafes and restaurants. It's pretty neat. We went to the marina - at the end of the malacon( the boardwalk) to do laundry- 4 kms. there, and 4 back- with suitcase in tow. Met some sailors there and enjoyed exchanging stories. Today we met a couple from Scotland who are here on their sailboat- must be big, as the captain of the ship- or the boat boy- whatever he was, was chauffering them around in a rental dcar. They kindly gave us a ride home from the beach.
Tomorrow, we start spanish school. Yikes! Haven't been to school in 26 years or so??????? Classes are from 8:30 to 1 Monday to - well, we're not sure if Friday is included- or just to Thursday. We will find out tomorrow!
THis town is a Mexican "town" as opposed to a tourist spot. The places we've seen in the past are for tourists mostly. You only see the highlights, and usually have people trying to sell you stuff wherever you turn. Here, it is people living there daily lives- with regular stores- and restaurants- noone is trying to sell me bracelets and t shirts every ten steps!
We did meet "Hector",who promises to help us with our spanish- particularly if we take his boat trip out to see the whales! Maybe we will!
WE are waiting to do any of the touring stuff with Kendra and her boyfriend Scott when they come, and then again with Frank and LInda when they visit.
Stay tuned for more updates- we will learn how to download some pictures tomorrow. This is our first try at making an entry and sending it to anyone.
OK- signing off for now.

Thanks for sharing
Que pasa? Dos Cervas pour favor? That's all the Spanish I know - what a great idea. You sure picked a great winter to be somewhere warm - even if you do need a sweater at night. Have a great time - Jane
