Hi,
Well I arrived in Cairns yesterday afternoon and was greeted by torrential rain - not what i was expecting at all! Apparently it's a cyclone or anti-cyclone or something! Loadsa the trips to the barrier reef keep getting cancelled, so i decided to go on a day trip to cape tribulation (even further north than cairns) today. There were some decent beaches but again it was lagging down so not much fun. Rainforest was attractive though and we did a river cruise looking for crocodiles - according to our guide there was one on the river bank but no-one else could see it! Anyway we went to plenty of places including Port Douglas (the next little town north of cairns) but to be honest it wasn't great - the day pretty much consisted of sitting on the bus for ages and then getting off every now and then to walk around and take photos! I think there was even quite a lot in the rainforest and cape tribulation that we couldn't do because of the rain - like swimming and apparently crocodiles stay under water when it's raining and not really hot. So not a brilliant trip/tour but i've
done it and ticked it off! The weather doesn't look like it's getting any better though and not only are the reef trips likely to be cancelled but the greyhound services between cairns and townsville ( the next place heading south that i'm going) have all been suspended for the last few days because of floods - so i may not even be able to escape! Oh well here are some photos from today anyway and will keep you posted on the cyclone!
